it's my understanding that different algae grow at different phosphate levels. 5.0+ regular algae grows. 1.5 bad algae grows. 0 no algae grows. maybe that's the problem,less algae,less biofilm. raise the nitrate,like 5-10 so the plants feed on that instead of phosphate.

i watch one of her videos on the subject a year or two ago. she says she does that,because they're imports and want's to get them out of that water quick. at the time of the video,she said she stopped importing shrimp.

in hard water they can have a hard time getting the shell off and can die while trying. it's 10 and above they have trouble. a good molt happens in a split second,they just pop out. it's rare to see one happen.

could be they're about to molt. as the old shell separates from the new their eyes can look like they have glaucoma.

they will climb out of water if the surface is wet and there is something yummy to eat.

went to petco to get two 10;s,but decided to get two 5.5's they only had. neither had a price tag. $13.99 each for the 5's. asked how much for 10's,$17.99. i swear i saved 5 bucks few months ago on each 10 on the dollar per gallon sale.

they weigh a little more then the priority box most people use to ship shrimp. if you wall it with styrofoam,it's good to ship.

i buy styrofoam from them. $1.15 a box,can't beat that for pre cut. insulation, - newspaper boxes - uline 7x7 light weight (ships first class) if not cold at the buyers address,i use a smaller box with a styrofoam coffee cup.

costs,maybe 3 bucks to build. cut a slit,put in airline tubing and supper glued it.

i've heard people with over 8 ph have no problems. stable is key. someone else can recommend what minerals to use,but you want one with no kh...as you have enough. or buy distilled or ro water at the store. i make ro water and add salty shrimp mineral gh/kh+. also,when doing water changes,do it slowly. i made a drip container with a valve.

ph and kh are fine. TDS,a little high,but okay. gh is too low. cherries don't do good in 6 or lower. your tap might be lower.

you'll find out a petri dish is a waste of time and money. depending of the food,they'll make a mess any way. as it gets crowded they'll take it to go,if they can. a soft food in a bigger area is a less stressful feeding. sand is better. creates less nitrates. i clean the sand every 6 months.

yeah,but it's not man made. it's pumice rock. small size holds more bacteria per space of the filter,but needs a slower flow rate. yes.

if you can,remove the tube inside. fill it with denitrate. on both sides,put polyfill, on top,leave a little space above the polyfill. purigen and bio rings will work for a small tank,but if you use a low GPH canister,why not have it help with removing nitrates? once bacteria and stuff builds up,GPH could drop under 50,which is good.

a full grown adult pond snail is like the size of an apple seed. that's not what you have. INFO:they want to store up fat before laying eggs. not over feeding,they may breed less,but pond snails are still a problem. not a snail expert....they look like mystery snails to me.
