  1. Hi there, the top one is female, bottom one male from the first picture
  2. That is normal hygrophila polysperma a very easy plant to grow and quite undemanding
  3. Hi Human Shrimp, what are your water parameters in the tank? you can always look at adding some sort of tiger shrimp as they thrive in the same type of w/p as Neos does and wont breed with the cherry shrimp. i wanted to recommend, orange eye blue tigers, yet they can be quite finicky but maybe something more easy in the start like normal tigers or tangerine tigers. then there are also some very cool exotic types of snails that you can add, like rabbit or nerites for something a little different

    shrimp Tanks

Hi Nicpapa, Very smart tanks you have there! I have a question for you, I see you have been using quite a lot of different substrates. What have you found the best or shall I ask the most success with yet, in regards with survival rate and breeding for Caridina?
  5. Hi Arkaedus, you can mix them all together in a tank and their offspring will be like a lucky packet as you will get a variety of baby shrimp. i have a tank like this with mischling, taiwan bee and pinto shrimp in, in my living room for the ‘show’ tank if we get friens over. I call it my smartie tank
  6. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that crs is definitely not prl. Its either a very low quality crs (c grade) or has got some tiger genes in it. and the red eyes are quite common yes
  7. The smaller shrimp is male yes and the larger one female, you can clearly see her saddle and yes they are both big enough to breed
  8. 😂😂😂 are you at the right place bmhater? we definitely dont eat our shrimp you tosser
  9. Yes, taiwan bee or any other fancier shrimp like pintos, steels esc grow slower than your normal caridina like crs/cbs
  10. Your nitrates are to high, TB shrimp are very sensitive and you should try keeping it less than 10 is there a reason why you dont do water changes?
  11. Hi shrimpfoot, When your water comes out from your RO unit, the ph will be low due to the process that its gone through in all of the different stages and this water is still full of co2, and the reason for the co2 will make your ph low, like 6. if you let your water stand for a day or two, or aerate the water the co2 wil gas off and you should have a ph of around 7 - neutral water. it wont be the case that your ro water has a ph of 6 and aquasoil will drop the ph even further due to your ro having a ph of 6.....if that makes sense a ph of 5.3 is quite low yes, but definitely do-able with Caridina shrimp. i run all my tanks with aquasoil. 2 9L bags in around 130L of tank water and my ph stabilizes at around 5.5 ph. how long have you had the BB in this tank?
  12. I remineralise to 135 tds and this gives me a Gh of 4.5 with blue wizard. A friend of mine gets exactly the same results use RO water with tds of 0
  13. Hi Madcrafted, I am sure that the bacteria in filters just stalls or take much longer to colonise more in softer water with lower Ph, but wont die off. I personally think why ada recommends using tap water for cycling is to build up as much bacteria in the shortest space of time, thus suggesting using tap water. Dont get me wrong, you can use ro water to cycle, it will simply just take a lot longer. Cycling ada with tap water for a month/2 months really wont exhaust the buffer capacity from aquasoil as it is a very strong buffering soil that can last for a good couple of years
  14. Ada recommends to cycle with tap water, well, water with a Kh of atleast 2 to make the cycle go faster. When the soil exhaust the Kh to 0 the cycle will stall dramatically. After the cycle is complete you can change all the water with remineralised RO water. Cycling for a month/month and a half with tap water wont exhaust the aquasoil
  15. I agree with aotf the big guys had to start somewhere to get all the fancy shrimp.....boa, galaxy fishbones, so had to cull hard and breed only the best looking shrimp to get where they are today
  16. Hi Nicapa, To answer a couple of your questions if you breed a TB to crs/cbs you will get mischlings. Now if you take the female mischlings and breed them back to a TB you will get upto 50% TB and the say 50% more michlings F2. say you breed the F2 mischling females back again to TB males you will get a higher. % of TBs, yet again you will get mischlings F3. If you keep on doing this for the next couple of generations....female mischlings with TB males you will get a even higer % TBs in say F6. now the mischlings will look either like crs/cbs, but you will get more cbs as black is the dominent gene. if you breed pintos to TBs, the same will happen as breeding TBs to crs/cbs as in you will get normal rkk, bkk, blue bolts, but they carry the pinto gene. If you cross them back to pinto, you will start seeing some pinto babies in the next generations maybe try and get diffirent grades and pattern of TBs, like, red panda, rkk, extreme and with black as you will get more varried patterns from TBs I have 2 only pinto tanks, red and black pintos and the black pintos throw around 30% blue bolt babies and the red pintos throw around 30% rkk babies. i dont think they will ever breed 100% true. Maybe I am wrong, but this is what I have found in my tanks i seperate the pinto mischlings aka TBs with pinto genes with cull pinto males.....I still need to see what comes of this for them to breed, but the female TBs should throw out more pintos and then also TB mischlings hope I have answered some of your questions
  17. Totally agree with the 2 comments above yes
  18. Hi Mayply, any update on how you found this soil? i am in the process of changing substrates and we can get this locally
  19. Hi, i have been reading up on this product as it reduces detiris and look like a healthy bacteria for the water, so my question is does anybody use this and have experience with this product i will still use a method of dosing bacteria for the filters as in Prodibio
  20. Hi Dazalea, Can you post to South Africa? Would love a package or 2
  21. Will give it a go anyways and see what might pop up the crs mischling should shed soon so exciting times
