  1. Had a rescape at the weekend got some lava rocks and wood for Christmas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I set a phone timer too, but I forgot to reset it when I moved the outlet from one bucket to the next! I wouldn't like to rely on an auto shut off, but it's probably a good backup for situations like this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Forgot to turn my RO unit off last night [emoji33]. Made a bit of a mess! Time to get a auto shutoff valve I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I think I'm having issues with the GH being too high at the moment, I have just been remineralising to a target TDS of 130 ish, but have been slowly loosing shrimp the GH is 8. I have reset a tank that had some issues and now it's got the GH of 5 and TDS of 100 and was about to move the shrimp back, but had heard elsewhere that a TDS of 100 was too low so was concerned that I'd just make things worse! At this stage I only have 3 left so will probably give it a go anyway as they do seem to be slowly dying off at the current parameters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I am remineralising with salty shrimp GH and I am having a problem getting my TDS high enough. It's currently sitting at 98, and my GH is 5. The tank will be for cardinia shrimp, so am wanting a TDS of about 120-150. Is there a way to increase TDS without affecting my GH? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. On the positive side I have had some success with the cherry tank. The higher grade cherries that I had separated out from the old cherry tank, about 8 in total have started to breed, I've got 3-4 berried at the moment I also puchased some tiger shrimp from my LFS on Thursday, I have lost one but they all seem quite happy at the moment. They are some quite pretty shrimp, I have some clear, some that are blue tinged with orange tails and one that is mostly orange, lovely variety. They have been put in with my higher grade cherries at the moment. I also ended but with a tiny blue dream baby which was in the same tank in the shop with the tigers, he must have slipped in somehow! I have currently put him in with my cherry culls, too small to breed at the moment but it's a lovely blue color, might have to use it as an excuse to get some more! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Time for an update, it a long one as it's been a while! I had some PH problems in the michling tank, which caused a mass die off of the cherries I had in there, I also lost 4 of the michlings . Ended up moving them to my old cherry tank which I had to move all the cherry culls out of first! The michlings have been in that tank a couple weeks now and I have lost another two (possibly down to a long power cut I had) or possibly because I'm having trouble maintaining the tank parameters as it's such a small tank. I have taken apart and rebuilt the michlings tank and am hoping to move them back soon! Here's the michling tank I'm still filling it at the moment! I have modified the HMF filters as I was having some problems with them blocking up constantly! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. And heating! It's a good idea, we have an electric hob so can't even heat water to use. Although this is the first time we've had a power cut like this so hopefully it will be the last Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Yes it typical it always happens at once! We've got power back now fortunately although looks like half my street still doesn't. I'll be adding heat packs to the list of things I need! Had never considered that it would be a problem until now. No I'm in the UK but I think they sell a similar product. The shrimp tanks are fairly low stocked but we've got a fish tank which is pretty full. I'll have to keep a close watch on it this week and hope the power stays on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thank you, I'll try that I've still got lots to learn about shrimp keeping. I have moved them out the original tank and have re-set it, but need to wait until it's cycled before I move them back. We've had a power cut for the last couple of days so am going to make sure they recover from the temperature drop before I do anything else! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. That does make sense, I might try adding a little KH to see if it helps, I have some Gh KH remineraliser would I add that until I hit my target KH then just use GH until my TDS is correct? Also does KH increase the PH? I would want to keep it around the 6 range with the michlings wasn't sure I was able to do that with KH. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Mixed results really. The cherry shrimp continued to die off. After I found the last cherry shrimp dead and the remaining michlings swimming around like they were drunk I decided to remove them from the tank. I moved the michlings out of the tank and into into a small 19L tank. They seem to be doing okay in there. No more deaths anyway! One that was in its side and not very responsive when I pulled it out the original tank seems to have recovered which I'm very pleased about. Still no idea what caused the problems which is very frustrating! I'm going to re-set the original tank completely then leave it to cycle before re introducing anything to it again. 13. The tank was set up as a michling breeding project, the cherrys are just in there because it looked a bit empty! I was under the impression that without any KH the PH will buffer to whatever is in the tank, so as I've got peat and IAL and things like that it should stay at a low value. I might be wrong though, I'm still pretty new to all of this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I hope so, thanks for the advice. I guess I've just got to wait this out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Just peat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
