  1. I'm thinking of getting back into keeping shrimp and I noticed that a lot of new cardina varieties are now available (tibee, mischling, king kong, etc). I know with neocardina shrimp if you keep different colors they will basically revert back to a dull brown shrimp. Is there any risk of something like that happening with cardina shrimp or will they always continue to produce interesting patterns and colors when breeding the various colours and varieties together? Thanks, Harry
  2. The reason I ask is because I bought 15 yellow golden back shrimp about 3 weeks ago. Within days all of them started developing saddles except for two shrimp. However, none of them are berried yet, so I'm trying to figure out if those two that don't have obvious saddles are males and I just have to wait longer for the females to be berried or if maybe I don't have any males at all. BTW, here a few pics of the other shrimp that might be a male: Thanks, Harry
  3. I'm looking for a second opinion on whether this shrimp is a male or not: Thanks, Harry
  4. I'm hoping to get caridina shrimp for my 112G planted tank but I'm trying to figure out which species/strains I can mix together that will provide me with the most amount of colors without causing any unwanted or ugly hybrids. For example I've read you can mix Crystal Red and Crystal Black shrimp. Apparently Black King Kong and Red Wine shrimp can also be kept together without producing unwanted or ugly hybrids. I was wondering if there are other combinations of shrimp can be kept together in similar ways to produce the most colors possibly. Thanks, Harry
  5. I'm looking to get some yellow shrimp and I noticed that some sellers advertise their shrimp as having a golden stripe down their backs. Is this a stable trait or does it require culling to maintain shrimp with this golden stripe? I'm hoping to have a colony of yellow shrimp that I won't have to cull or interfere with much and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth spending more on these golden back shrimp or if that trait would just breed out after a few generations without culling. Thanks, Harry
  6. Hi, I'm trying to find some Melanoides Granifera snails, also called Spike Tail Trumpet Snails. There seem to be at least two color varieties of these snails. The ones I'm hoping to find look like this: Seems like these are easier to find in Europe and Russia however I have yet to find someone willing to ship them to North America. If you have these or know someone who does please let me know. Thanks, Harry
  7. Both are what is commonly called Malaysian Trumpet Snails. There's actually several species that are usually called by this name. Here's a thread with a bit more details: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/88-shrimp-other-invertebrates/784130-types-malaysian-trumpet-snails-mts.html#/topics/784130?page=1 Thanks, Harry
  8. I've read multiple posts mention that certain colors of neocaridina davidi (cherry shrimp) can be kept together without producing wild colored offspring. Does anyone have a list of possible color combinations that can be kept together without creating wild colored offspring? Thanks, Harry
  9. Chlorine and chloramine kill the RO membrane so it needs to be removed via special carbon filters in one of the stages before it reaches the membrane. Thanks, Harry
  10. Why are they supposed to feel no pain? Has this been proven scientifically? Thanks, Harry
