  1. I would guess that neos are just genetically hardwired for faster growth. Different genes for different means! Hybrid vigor could account for faster growth in Tibee shrimplets, but it is not universal in all hybrid crosses. In regards to ligers, their large size is the result of a run away growth gene that only manifests in male lion x female tiger cosses. Tigons (male tiger x female lion) do not grow larger than either parent species. Tigons also suffer from a host of medical problems that would be hard to describe as "vigor."
  2. I feed Soilent Green once a week and my shrimp really seem to like it. Been using it for about a year, and that's just from a couple sample bottles they had sent along with an order I had placed for reptile stuff. Plus it never gets old dramatically telling my shrimp that soylent green is made of people! I haven't tried their Shrimp Souffle, though.
  3. I'm embarrassingly bad at posting. My apologies!
  4. Not to highjack this thread, but I love this shrimp chart! Is there a better resolution version or a poster that can be purchased?
  5. The blasé attitude of this post really angers me. Irresponsible pet ownership hurts the whole community.
  6. The wife is setting limits on how many tanks I have until we move to a new place. Gotta pick my battles!
  7. Thanks! I almost had to get one.
  8. My LFS has these really brightly colored crayfish they call "red lobsters." Anyone know what species this is?
  9. This might sound kinda silly, but concrete on metal lath can make fairly light and durable backgrounds. Plus it's very cheap! I've used it with amphibians and fish long term without issues. Just recently been adding some shrimp culls to a tank with 3 concrete sides and they look to be doing good. If you have an artistic side, it might be worth a try. All off the design elements in this frog tank are concrete. I plan on experimenting more with shrimp and concrete in the future.
  10. Collecting is great fun! Good luck. A side note on the snake issue, most bites in the USA are received by young men actively harassing snakes. If you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone.
  11. I had read that 316 stainless steel mesh 20 was the way to go in making inlet guards, so I ordered some. Now that I have it in hand, the mesh doesn't look fine enough to exclude very young shrimplets. Anyone else have problems or success with this material?
