  1. I think it is used in planted tanks because it absorbs fertilizer you add to the water and then releases it slowly over time?
  2. I'm not sure if they really help or not. But they might, so it's worth it to me. I'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them, you know? Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  3. I think the snow white is recessive, so if you have just snow whites you will only get snow whites. I might be completely wrong. Need an expert!
  4. Substrate color, background color are the two main factors. What color plants too.
  5. Um, well it depends upon a lot of factors, but if there is a gun to my head I would shout "Blue velvets!"
  6. Yes, tanks are cycled. I currently am running DIY canister filter 596 gph with 2 gallons of Seachem Matrix media in the main tank for biological filtration, plus a sponge filter. In the fry tank I have 2 cycled sponge filters going. The main tank is a 30 gallon tall (it's what I had) while the fry tank is a ten gallon. I am buying some frogbit and duckweed today for cover.
  7. What an amazing sight! Wish we had things like that around here.
  8. I have a trio of blood red swordtails and 3 pairs of real red eyed albino red finned guppies coming in this week. I have two tanks set up for them. I am going to be breeding them, with the goal of producing colorful offspring worthy of selling to other breeders. To do this I will need to take excellent care of them, have pristine water conditions, feed them right, etc. Having kept demanding shrimp I feel up to it but fish are just so different. I have cared for a lot more shrimp than i have fish. I will post pictures when they arrive this Wednesday. I am very excited!
  9. Wow very nice! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  10. Use ammonia from the hardware store. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  11. I've always used regular hand soap and have never had any issues. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  12. I read that shrimps are sensitive to changes in barometric pressure and that our efforts to manipulate temperatures don't really work. Of course that was just forum gossip from years ago. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  13. I love breeding fish as well. I have some blood red swordtails coming in that I am going to use to get my feet wet. Nice looking guppies!
  14. Thanks for the info!Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  15. I had some "Blue Lobsters" a while back. They were amazing. So much personality. Unfortunately one of them crawled out of the tank, I found him 20 feet away on my carpet! When I put him back in the tank he was fine, but in his weakened state the other blue lobster attacked and killed him. It was awful
