  1. Check out these furry critters! I’m not sure why algae is growing on these shrimp as its not growing anywhere else in the tank. Lighting is ‘medium’ intensity with weekly water changes. Tank is CO2 injected and coral is added to the sump for calcium https://share.icloud.com/photos/0SqDrgkqwZTAhjQ2eQXD73Ciw IMG_5868.MOV

  5. So far so good. Ph just at or below 7. My 7g just needed a teabag size amount in the nano filter.
  6. So far it looks like the coral has done its job....stable at Ph 7 the next day! Ill be checking it twice daily to see any fluctuations. Chappy why do you think I would get Ph instability?
  7. The substrate is apprx 5 month old now. Changing out the substrate would be an issue. Since the substrate is only an inch deep maybe I could just add an inch or two of black sand on top and do some aquascape contouring? I did add some crushed coral to the filer today. Ill test tomorrow and see if that has made a difference, however I am adding "Ph Neutral' to keep to water from getting to acidic.
  8. If the EBI concept was marketed towards shrimp hobbyists, isnt a Ph of 6 a bit low for the average shrimp keeper? I would of thought the Fluval EBI product was marketed towards newbies like myself. Adding buffers to keep the water in the upper 6's is a pain. Any suggestions other than starting a total rebuild?
  9. Hi All I have a Fluval Ebi tank. Typical setup with their Stratum substrate. The tank is planted and has a root driftwood My issue is that the Ph keeps dropping to 6 over a period of a week when its starting out with my Ph 7 tapwater. I have recently placed a fist size lava rock and tested it the next day and Ph went from 6.8 to 6.4 over a couple of days. I was hoping the rock would stabilize. Amonia Nitrites and Nitrates all zero. I use the standard internal filer that comes with the setup but have mini biomax in the large chamber. Tankmates include 7 cherry shrimp and 4 Galaxy Rasboras, 3 Badis, and now 4 neon fry added yesterday. I did start with a dozen cherry and some have passed over the last month or so. Usual's go into the tank like Prime and Stability and monthly Equilibrium. Does anyone think the Stratum is the dropping Ph culprit?
  10. Hello and thanks for the input and compliments All the fish get on well and I had a pleasant surprise of newly layed ram eggs last evening. (gone by this am, prob due to hungry kuhli's) I havnt checked out iodide but will do some research. I dont use any carbon in my canister...may consider adding Fluval Zeo-Carb back in to control phosphates. Does anyone here add equilibrium? Your right ShrimpP the second pic is an earlier shot. As they age in my tank the shrimp become darker.
  11. Hello Shrimper's! my 6x bamboo shrimps are not shedding and are going green with algae. I dont really have an algae problem anywhere else. I have a 34g with under tank canister filter and a circulation head pump that keeps the water constantly moving. The shrimps are always feeding in the water streams and seems to be happy although they seem to have stopped growing/shedding. It must be over 4 months since Ive seen any molting. The water column is not super clean so Im thinking there is enough micro food for them. They are pooping so not exactly starving. I do add a monthly level teaspoon of seachem equilibrium and there's also a cuttlefish in the filter. Ph;7 GH:5 and weekly water changes. I am going to turn down the lights an hour or so per day which is currently 8. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Tankmates 40 rasboras 5 small german rams 2 corys 2 plecos 2 kuhlis 4 hatchet Feeding once or twice a day flakes and wafers.
