  1. My tank is fairly heavily planted and I have a couple generations of RCS and two berried females in my group of 25ish. Female betta white cloud mountain minnows Peppered cories Couple cherry barbs Oto
  2. Mind you there is a pellet behind him...
  3. I'm asking about the shrimp on the right. And also what is on his side? Is that just a discoloration?
  4. Well 75% went into the 20 gallon and 25% into the 2.5. Either way I should get a decent breeding colony in the 2.5 and maybe in the 20 gallon. I turned the lights out and had fed a bunch before adding them in. I saw a couple juvies when I left this morning. So we'll see!
  5. So@zodiac sent me about 20 shrimp that are waiting for me at home. (thanks again!) but I'm having a dilemma of where I should add them. Here are my current options: 20 gallon high heavily planted riparium with the following inhabitants: Female betta 5 Flagfish Oto Pepper Cory 3 cherry barbs BN Pleco Assorted snails (assassin, MTS, Ramshorn) I just escaped and put in a lot of moss and a piece of Cholla wood on top of the new manzanita and other stuff. 2.5g Jarrarium Lots of moss and a few pieces of wood. Only 2 cherries (both female :() Ramshorn snail family The following aren't really options: 1 gallon Jarrarium Heavily planted with 8 cherries and at least one of the females had lots of babies! Ramshorn snails .7 gallon snail Jarrarium .4 gallon snail Jarrarium Do I split them between the 20 and 2.5? Do I put them all in the 20? I'm just worried about my betta, (or flagfish) going rogue and taking out the shrimp. Disclaimer: 7 of my cherries started in the 20 gallon and there was only one death. (less planted then). Inhabitants were the same minus the 4. juvie flagfish and the betta. So at least Betsy the flagfish wasn't a shrimp killer. I appreciate your help!
  6. I redid the substrate (dirt with BDBS cap) in december and switched to filterless a week or two ago. This tank has been up and running in some form for... 4 years? My journal post has the rundown. No CO2. My shrimp are in my Jarrariums until I can breed out some more just in case 1)my flagfish and others pick off the first few I put in there 2) I feel like the new walstad set up is flourishing and the plants have grown in more and everything has stabilized I don't know actually! But I figure eventually the bark will come off and my fish and (eventual shrimp) will have a field day.
  7. Update! My manzanita came in the mail and it's beautiful and I love red manzanita. I moved a couple plants around as well and got rid of the black lava rock and the large maple branch. The manzanita was gigantic so I had to cut the two branches down into smaller parts. Hope you guys like it!
  8. Would shipping to Michigan be a death sentence①? PM
  9. Okay so here is the rock So with my black background I feel like it is pointless. I mean it will be great when all the flame moss and Java ferns grow out. Tomorrow I will be getting two 24" manzanita branches. What should I do? I was thinking of this: Pardon my terrible drawing skills. I'm thinking of dropping down the log and then having the two manzanita branches coming from the back corners. What do you guys think?
  10. So today I got home and noticed that I had almost zero flow in my canister filter and decided that I'm done with that filter for now. If I'm going for the Walstad method I should probably get rid of it at some point, so why not now? I'm a tiny bit worried about how everything will turn out so I added back in my two little sponge filters in the back corners. We'll see how it turns out. I had to do some rescaping and realized that the large piece on the far right was still buoyant :/ I added a little more moss to it and another baby java fern. I also moved the bacopa stems up out of the back corner. So my plan is to just run the sponge filter at night between 12am & 6am. Should I just go completely filterless? by the way my TDS meter came and my tank was running at 577 so I did a 4 gallon water change with RO water and got it down to 400. I think my tap water is somewhere around ~300. I checked and I had zero nitrates & nitrites as well. So here is my question: Should I just go full walstad and get rid of the sponge filter and get some sort of powerhead for circulation? I’m continuing to dose metricide at ~2 mL daily. Here’s a couple pictures from tonight!
