  1. I recently saw Roma's setup and that was the final nail in the coffin that led me down this path. I was initially worried the substrate might not have enough flow through it or something, but Lups bin method disproves that theory. I am going to go for it I will post some follow up pics down the line.
  2. Setting up a few more caridina tanks here and am wanting to have the buffering substrate in a modular situation to avoid breaking down the tank. I am thinking of making a box out of plastic canvas, putting as much substrate as I would use normally into the box, and placing inert substrate around the rest of the tank. I have seen tons of tanks with substrate in glassed off sections and even in bins so I do not see why this would not work. I was also wondering how much active substrate is required to do its job correctly. In the past I have used it as standard substrate but with this I guess I can measure it more accurately. Let me know if you see anything wrong or have some tips on this kind of setup. I made a diagram to show you my idea
  3. How many white caridina are there? I know there is a white caridina in the crystal grouping. Is that the only one? And is PWL an actual thing or is it the same as any white crystal? Is there a white Taiwan bee? Where does a golden bee fall in all of this? Where do red bolts come from? Trying to adress all questions off the bat
  4. I see it all now, this is exactly what I was looking for, thanks guys
  5. I am planning out my rack and was wondering how you put the 2x8's in place of the particle. Did you lay them on top of the metal framework or did you somehow get them in there where the particle board was. I am trying to make sure I have enough arm room and buy the right tanks.
  6. Thanks for the help guys, I plan on grabbing that rack and using 2x8's. Perfect for my needs.
  7. That was the front runner of my finding. I cannot tell if there is extra support under the particle board so I have been kind of deterred. Is there crossbeams under the wood on every shelf?
  8. At one point I had a BB and BKK Panda tank. I took it down and separated the BKK's into their own new setup. I only had 3 left after the die off in their old tank. The female of the 3 has always had a peculiar backline since the day I bought her as a BKK Panda. About a month ago I noticed roughly 12 babies I was surprised to see that there were pandas, black dominant BKKs and most interestingly about half the babies came out with a zebra pattern. Also about a quarter of the babies have pretty orange eyes, maybe not full out beat orange but not dark at all. Now a month later some of the zebra pattern babies are showing head spots. I would like some clarification on what I am dealing with here genetics wise. It seems I am no longer in the realm of pure Taiwan Bee. Below I will have some pictures of the babies and the 3 adults.
  9. I am in the market for a rack. I am not experienced in the slightest at making things. I have decided probably to go with one of those metal "garage" type storage racks. I was wondering who out there uses these and if there is a preferred brand that preforms best. I have heard that putting plywood down on the shelf really ensures the tanks are level, so I am considering that. I want to see what you guys think and have experienced. For the record I am looking for something 42-48 inches long, 4 shelves high, and deep enough to hold ten gallon tanks sideways.
  10. Yesterday, Thursday september 14 I woke up to a molt with eggs on it. I have never had mother molt her eggs off or die berried until now. I luckily had an ibron egg tumbler for exactly this and set it up. There was one free flying egg, a pack of 2, and a pack of ~12 slightly stuck together from molt remnants. Within an hour I could not find the single egg and figured it got tangled in with the big bunch. As I was looking for the single I actually got to witness 2 shrimp hatch from the pack of 12 which was fascinating. Went to get food and came back to the 2 pack now also missing, leaving the 2 hatched shrimplets and the pack of 10ish. I figured I would give them at least a night to hatch and I was very excited to check in the morning. Sadly when I looked in there, it's only the 2 shrimplets all of the other eggs are gone. I literally just don't know and am temporarily chalking it up to me setting the incubator up wrong and them escaping somehow. The only problem with that is I am pretty sure I did not set it up wrong lol I followed every direction I could find. Let me know what you guys think as I am out of ideas at this point.
  11. Adding on I have heard of a lot of people report tigers going cannibal first when they lack protein
  12. I'm pretty sure they are two different shrimp that happen to look alike. I have some redbolts right next to me and they have more of a peach hue to them I would say. There are maybe one or two shrimp in my colony of 17 low-med grade red bolts that could be mistaken at a quick glance. With a little inspection I think you would be able to notice some colors in any of my redbolts. Golden bees can come yellowish-gold all the way to crystal white. Red bolts are more whiteish-peach color and only turn more red the higher grade. That is my understanding of it right now.
  13. I have to be honest I am a little skeptical these stunning shrimp exist as I feel they would be far more popular. To clarify I am talking about http://www.planetinverts.com/Blue_Bee_Shrimp.html. A shrimp I have never seen on a video or in a store so this is a long shot lol. If anyone is lucky enough to breed these little guys I am only looking for 5 shrimp. Blue shrimp are my go to and these would be a perfect addition to my collection. Even if you do not have them for sale but have experience with them I would love to hear about it. Thanks.
  14. If you have 15 to offer I would gladly buy them. If you PM me your paypal email and I can send you the funds asap.
