  3. Hi all, I currently have a 10G tank set up with red cherries/painted fires that are doing very well but I am concerned about inbreeding in the future and would like to add some fresh stock. Looking to buy red cherries to add in. Not super concerned about color; more interested in well-bred, hardy lines. Let me know if you have any available and what your prices are. Looking for around 10-15 at this time. Would be shipping to Southern California. (or if you are local!) Thank you! AF
  4. Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm having trouble with my 5gal, fluval spec cherry shrimp tank. I've tried everything I can find and they are still dying. Many signs point to molting issue but I can't stop it! I'm getting the white ring of death on many. I've tried adding cuttlebone, crushed oyster shell & feeding kale, reduced temp, increased GH ....and still deaths. Stats: ammonia/nitrate/nitrite: 0 ph: 7.4 tds: 300 temp:73 kh:4/gh:12 calcium:around 100 mg/l Weekly water changes with remineralized RO water. Tank is planted, no co2, occasional excel, no medications or chemicals for the most part. Help
  5. I currently have 3 Red Cherry Shrimp, sadly just lost one whom I suspect might have been the only male, and though we've had them for many months they have never bred. After losing the 4th RCS we went to pick up some new ones to expand the colony however we couldn't find any at two local stores so settled, for now and to kind of get the hang of breeding on slightly cheaper Shrimp, 4 ghost shrimp instead. It turned out that not only was one of the Shrimp very pregnant, the eggs were already on her tail, but a little small fry was also swimming around in the bag. We kept them separate from the main tank until we could get a floating breeding/isolation tank, but sadly the momma died from the stress and we didn't have any knowledge of how or even if the eggs could have been saved, however the fry is alive and doing good as far as we can tell growing in the breeding tank till she/he is big enough to not be dinner for other shrimp or fish in the tank. I took some pictures of my RCS and of the ghost when we first got them and am hoping people here can tell me what gender they might be so I can get a male or females if I don't have enough or any of one or the other. One of the RCS did not want it's photo taken so it's as good as I can get. He's the one hiding behind a bright green leaves on, of course, the bright red lite up volcano. He (or she) seems on the smaller side and the legs can look more speckled than solid red sometimes and it has a stripe along its back that looks like it's constantly about to molt off or something, very whitish dry looking. Hopefully that might help with identifying what it is... Thanks
  6. So I left my yellow shrimp and my cherry shrimp in the same tank due to lack of tanks as well as my inexperience when i started this shrimp hobby. I started of with two already berried yellow shrimp and some male and female cherries. A couple months later I saw that the yellows were berried again but I knew I didn't have any mature male yellows so I assumed that the male cherry mated with one of them. She didn't have as many eggs as before so I assumed she just got rid of them but apparently not. Now I have some yellow shrimp with red striped behinds. Should I leave them be and let this cross continue since they look pretty cool (in my opinion) or should I separate the two colors? Please leave any helpful information if you have any thanks! Ps. I am fully aware of the Cardinal Sulawesi there, I found him at a LFS and since he was the last one, they gave him to me for like 3$. I don't believe I have him in the right environment but he's doing well since he stopped hiding and travels around the tank a lot and isn't as territorial as I have heard.

So I now decided to have blue only shrimp I currently own blue dream shrimp and love their colour, but I just found out about fantasy blue shrimp, now as their both blue can these two be mixed? Or will they produce wild type grey PFA my all natural nano tank setup
  9. Hi, I have a 1.8 gallon (cycled) tank, so basically a fishbowl with a filter. It has 9 water wisteria, three Marimo balls and some rocks/ a cave. I have one ghost shrimp, one cherry shrimp, and one Malaya/rainbow shrimp. I have a fantasy about breeding Red cherry shrimp and possibly selling, but I don't know if it's possible in such a tiny tank. I just have a few questions about that: 1. How many shrimp do you think I could keep in this little tank? 2. Would I have to put a sponge over the filter intake? 3. Do you think that non-local stores like Petsmart or Petco would buy the shrimp? Thanks if you can answer any of these!
  10. Thanks for helping, in advance. I have a 1.5 gallon that has a filter and air pump. Currently I have 1 ghost shrimp and 1 RCS. How many shrimp can I keep in this tank? I don't want them to get territorial. My ghost shrimp and cherry get along absolutely fine. I have 8 Water wisteria and 3 Marimo algae balls, as well as a few rocks for exploring and cleaning.
  11. First of all, I wanto to introduce myself, Im Camaron, Im new on this forum and I'd like to learn to pet (and maybe breed) some shrimps! I've tried once to breed 5 RCS but I failed, since I wasnt well informated and I didnt ask someone more expirienced, this time I dont want to fail again so I looked for a shrimp forum and make some questions to poeple who know about this topic. I want to start again, I just cleaned my tank (a 30 per side cube) [26liters - 6.5 gal] with just water and cleaned the sand (black inert silica sand), let the sand dry with the sun and packed it on a bottle. I have two filters, one is a cascade canister filter (185l/h) and a submersible filter (200l/h). Also I have a LED ligth lamp (http://www.amazon.com/Lemonbest-Bright-Aquarium-Lighting-Fixture/dp/B01533LOY4) I'd like to start a "planted" RCS tank, but I think I need to change my substrate in order to grow some plants, I want to grow low requirements plants and some moss, or should I go just for moss? I wanted to ask you guys which substrate should I pick and where can I buy it (hopefully not super expensive). Also my LED light will it work? or it sucks? Which plants/moss do you guys recomend me to start with. Thank you for your time guys and hope we can get along.
  12. Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I have some cherries that were sold as "Bloody Mary shrimp". They've been breeding for about a year now and I've noticed a lot of less desirable grades of cherry start to show up. I've been starting to cull, but I'd like some help judging what grade I have to begin with. I took a few pictures of some of my shrimp with varying degrees of color. I've tried to gather information about cherry grading and know that the opacity of the last female and the stripe on the back of the second female are not as desirable. Is there a book or website everyone refers to for grading standards? I've seen a few charts floating around this forum, but that's it. Thanks for the help!
  13. Hey guys, I will try to cut a long story short here, but basically I have a problem with one of my red cherry shrimp. I have 4 red cherry shrimp in a 60 L tank. All water parameters are in check; no ammonia, low nitrates, PH is at 7.. the shrimp are roving around grazing and apparently doing very well.. except for one shrimp. I have a male who has some green abnormality growing from his swimmerets. During all my learning about shrimp care I came across this briefly and I spotted it early on my shrimp and knew this is not good news. Apparently this is a fungal infection of one form or another but I have not been able to identify it by name or really find too much information about it (causes / treatment etc..) I have taken one or two pictures which show the issue on my shrimp but for an initial picture I will simply link this picture I found online which shows a more advanced and obvious case of the same infection. There is nothing conclusive online (that I have found) to advise me going forward.. I have isolated the only shrimp showing signs of this infection in a breeding box. I have medicated his isolation tank with a dose of JBL Fungol and also Pimafix in hopes of curing him. He has been in this tank for 48 hours now. So far he still has these green abnormalities on him and I don't really see much sign of improvement yet. Has anyone had this issue before? If anyone can shed any light on how, what, where and why I would appreciate it.
  14. I'm trying to learn about Cherry shrimp. I sold some of my more red colored to them a while ago, and they want more. They keep asking and praising their color etc. I thought I would invest in some high grade and breed for them. But I have a couple questions. 1) Are all going to breed and fade and get that faded stripe on their backs eventually? I read somewhere that there are actually two types of cherries and depending on which you had they would show the faded stripe after a generation or two. 2) Actually that's my only ? Except for asking for recommendations on where to purchase the best breeding stock. But I figure maybe others would have more ?'s I haven't thought of yet.
  15. Downsizing my tanks. Will post pics shortly. Pu mission viejo , $7 ship SoCal , $13 ship outside SoCal. 5 male galaxy tigers $40 6 adult tangerine tiger (1 female) + 6 pewees $30 (2 packs)
  16. I have a single red cherry shrimp moving around a lot in the tank.. I never saw any of them swim around as much as this and she has been doing it obsessively for the last 6 hours+.. She is like going around the perimeter of the tank just constantly swimming. There are only 3 shrimp in this tank. I woke up to 3 molts this morning in the tank. Out of the 3 shrimp in here, This female is the only shrimp swimming around like crazy - the other two seem fine. Edit; nevermind. I thought only the males zoom around like this after molting..
