This thread is dedicated to the individuals out there that have built, planning, thinking about building a breeding rack of any shape, size and custom plumbing that you want to. I need some ideas on a few racks for my fish room. I have one in mind just looking to see what is out there and to throw around some ideas. I am thinking on doing a breeding rack of 10g tanks. I want to do 2 shelves of 10g with 5 tanks on each level. On the top level would be where I want to have my 20L tanks at. The 10s would be turned, and the 20L would be like normal. I would have mostly neos in the 10g tanks, killis and anything else. My 20L are the Taiwan bee tanks, not sure on how many I want. I have 2 running right now one for regular breeding and one for my Pinto project. I also want to make a dedicated 20L for Sulawesi Shrimps also. This should be a good thread to show off our breeding racks and to make life easier for people that are just getting into the hobby and want to know how to organize MTS lol.

Hi Everyone! Happy New Years to all! I just moved into my new place just after Christmas, and with that comes a Mini Fish room and Shrimp Rack Build. This is going to be a very simple setup and will be running one pump for multiple tanks, and a few hang on filters. There should be 12 tanks total in this mini fishroom! I used to have the metal racks but I am converting so that this fish room will have two custom made wood racks to replace the old metal ones. My father made this first built in unit using lumber and reinforced it using the beams within the wall. We have tested it for strength and its stronger then any shelf I've had so far (and I've had many strong shelves). We are going to also reinforce it abit more on the bottom shelf and sides for just a little more peace of mind! I stained the rack for a "rustic" look. Then I sealed it with waterproof varnish... I wanted this to look a little more warm then the industrial look of the metal shelving, because this fish room is located in a small room in the back of my house. It was likely an office or den before I moved in! So it suits the house perfectly and will have a serene look. For this shelf, I have 2 x 20 gallon tanks on the bottom, and 2 x 15 gallons on the middle, and 2x 15 gallons on top. The 15 gallons will all be shrimp tanks. The 2 x 20 gallons will likely house guppies or plecos. My next shelving unit (still to be built) will be free standing *not a built in* and will be the same style as the other. It will be smaller as it is intended to hold 30" wide tanks I am using sponge filters on the shrimp tanks and hang ons for the guppies and plecos. I will update as I add my tanks and transfer the tanks to the shelves (they are being stored at my moms for now) As most of you know moving tanks is extremely complicated and time consumning.... So since I have been building journals for a few of my tanks, I figured I would let everyone in on my current situation. So I have most of my tanks in a small office. It has been perfect so far for what I am doing. As it stands now I probably wont be able to set up much more tanks in there due to space and it being on the second floor. Due to recently getting a new furnace and clearing out my basement for insulating I finally decided to pull the trigger on finishing the basement and setting it up for a fish room. I have been debating this for awhile now but I live in Upstate New York and we have a wet basement, this is fine as long as your sump pump is working properly and you keep the moisture down. Once I got the pump replaced and added a backup pump I was ready to finish the basement and get my tanks up and running. This will take some time and I will be posting alot of pictures along the way, Right now I have got the walls framed in and the wire ran for the plugs. I thought ahead and added many dual outlets so I wont have to run power strips. This will be an awesome investment for what is coming later. I am insulating the walls starting tomorrow and will go and pick up the floor on monday. Tanks: 30G High Tech Planted, Co2 90G Discus Tank 55G Discus Tank for Fry Grow out Rack of 5 20L: 3 TB tanks and 2 PRL and Crystal tanks Rack with 2 40B for Discus Fry and breeding Bottom 2 rows will be as many 10G as I can fit. Single Air Pump powering all Sponge filters I will have a few HOBs on the tanks depending on what the inhabitants are. Want to keep it simple with just sponge filters and keep costs down. Probably will only have a few heaters in some of the tanks. Only need a few more 10g tanks, I have all the other tanks already. Picked them up from Craigslist and the $1g sale. I also have my rimless cube tanks that I am going to build some stands for. Will have a tank or two set-up high tech to have a nice planted tanks going. I have a 92G corner bowfront display I have upstairs that I keep stocked with nice plants. I am sure alot of this will change as I go, it will take me a bit to do the rest of it and get it functional. I do all the work myself on my days off so I really don't get alot of time to work on it. I have plans of breeding alot of shrimp to supply some of the local fish stores. They give me good prices and there is no one around that does it, Figured I would use this as incentive to build a bigger room. Always got to feed the MTS syndrome haha. The shrimp tanks will be kept pretty low tech for costs. I will be using cheap substrate for my Neos, and others. ADA Soil in all my TB tanks because its awesome! This is just a start more to add so follow! Tanks Already set-up to give you an idea of current livestock. 90G Discus- 20 Discus Most are juvies-mid growth still got alot of room to grow, Pigeon Bloods, Red Panda, 2 Snow whites, 2 Stendker Dark Angels, 2 Stendker Fire Reds, 2 Yellow Marlboroughs, White Faced Marlboro, Turquoise, 8.5G Sulawesi Cardinals/Breeding 4.5g Blue Velvet Tank/ Breeding 10G Carbon Rili/Red Crystals/ Berried 10G Cherries/Black Crystals/Breeding 5.5G Painted Fire Reds/Growing out 20L With Mischlings/ Growing Long post I know, but lots of good updates on my fish room, helps me keep track of my goals by writing this so its a win, win for me.

This will be updated as I install my Alita-60 Air system in my fish room. I was very frustrated searching for information on this topic online while I was researching the information on plans to install this. I am going to document my install and where I got all the equipment needed to install this central air system. These systems are great for people with multiple tanks, you no longer have to spend alot of money on many separate air pumps and the noise of several running at once. Not to mention the cost of running several different ones. The initial cost is higher but the benefits will quickly outweigh the cost in the long run.
