  1. I've unfortunately have had a lot of shrimp die and we think it may be due to a white looking fungus, or some kind of infection. I thought we had gotten all of the dead ones out but we may have missed some. But the other day I put in an algae pellet and within a day it looked like the same white stuff growing around the pellet. What is this stuff and how do I clean out my tank without losing more shrimp?
  2. Hi all, first post here. I have been researching this and haven't found anything that matches whats going on with my shrimp. Everything i have found is parasites on the shrimps head and body, but nothing looks like this, looks like white specks on the tip of the shrimp's nose. It is affecting about 4 of my shrimp. Seems to be the older ones. If you can tell me what you think it is and how to get rid of it, would be greatly appreciated. Tank is about 2.5 months established So I left for vacation, was gone for 6 days. Right before I left I did a 30% water change and fed them the normal amount of food. There is some algae buildup, due to the lack of CO2 I am assuming. Light is on a timer for 7 hours of light. 10 Gallon tank. When I got back, I had lost 2 shrimp and found that some had white spots on their "noses". Started with about 10 shrimp, there has been some breeding so now there are about 10 or so juveniles and more on the way. Cherry reds, Blue Velvets and 1 CRS are currently in this tank. I typically change my water 1-2 times a week 20-30% and dose Excel and API Leaf Zone twice a week. CO2 every day, sometimes every other day. Let me know if you need any other info. Tried to get decent pictures, but they move around so much it was tough. Can get better photos if needed. I am pretty new to keeping shrimp, so feel free to tell me if I am doing something wrong. I welcome advice. Also, you can see the stringy algae on some of my HC and substrate that I have been battling for what seems like forever in both my tanks. The shrimp don't eat it. If any tips on that also, would be appreciated. May just drop the light cycle if thats it, but i was trying to grow my HC which has been a very slow process. Thanks in advance! Thanks!
  3. Hello fellow shrimp keepers, Today in the morning I came to my tank to find a dead berried shrimp. I am trying to save the eggs by removing them from the under carriage and putting them to a glass tumbler. This is my second time trying this. First time I failed because of fungus sticking to the eggs. The air flow makes the eggs slightly wave in the current so I know they have enough air circulating. On the forum I am reading about success stories hatching the eggs, so I wanted to ask whether you guys have any way how to prevent fungus growing on the eggs? Any kind of medication or how do you remove the eggs and clean them to keep them healthy?
  4. Hey guys, I will try to cut a long story short here, but basically I have a problem with one of my red cherry shrimp. I have 4 red cherry shrimp in a 60 L tank. All water parameters are in check; no ammonia, low nitrates, PH is at 7.. the shrimp are roving around grazing and apparently doing very well.. except for one shrimp. I have a male who has some green abnormality growing from his swimmerets. During all my learning about shrimp care I came across this briefly and I spotted it early on my shrimp and knew this is not good news. Apparently this is a fungal infection of one form or another but I have not been able to identify it by name or really find too much information about it (causes / treatment etc..) I have taken one or two pictures which show the issue on my shrimp but for an initial picture I will simply link this picture I found online which shows a more advanced and obvious case of the same infection. There is nothing conclusive online (that I have found) to advise me going forward.. I have isolated the only shrimp showing signs of this infection in a breeding box. I have medicated his isolation tank with a dose of JBL Fungol and also Pimafix in hopes of curing him. He has been in this tank for 48 hours now. So far he still has these green abnormalities on him and I don't really see much sign of improvement yet. Has anyone had this issue before? If anyone can shed any light on how, what, where and why I would appreciate it.
  5. I just got some shrimp from someone (I'll disclose where, after I know more, if I feel it's appropriate) and some have green stuff on their undersides. Did I just contaminate my tank by putting them in population? Anybody know more about this stuff? Please advise. Sorry for the bad pics.
  6. Hi All, Can anyone identify what these black specks are on this Blue Velvet Shrimp? Does it look like something is wrong or possibly just a genetic thing? I edited to add another pic of one that looks like he has red spots on his side. I can't say whether they've always been there or not but I don't recall seeing them before. Thank you!
