  1. Hi! I’m getting a tank from a local hobbyist tomorrow along with the plants, shrimp and filters. I obviously won’t have time to let it cycle when I bring it home and set it up. I’ll be changing gravel and cleaning it before putting plants and shrimp back in. I don’t have any aquarium that is both big enough and safe to put the shrimp in until the tank cycles. My question is can I bring the tank in, change gravel. Pull water from an established aquarium to put in it before shrimp go in? I have a turtle tank that is well established and had about a 25% water change a couple days ago. I was thinking to pull the water from this tank to move to new shrimp tank.
  2. So I’m new at both fish keeping and shrimp keeping. Now I have 2 - 5 gallon fish tanks (one with a Hillstream loach, 4 Danios, a couple moss balls and some hornwort. The other has 1 male betta, 2 mystery snails, a moss ball and some hornwort) and 1 - 29 gallon tank that I’m currently trying to cycle (right now it has hornwort, java moss and some spiderwood in it but no fish/snails/shrimp) I’ve been testing my water in all my tanks about once a week. I started my two other fish tanks out of an impulse almost... I saw my betta at Pet Supplies Plus had a tank in my basement and decided I had to take him home... so I hadn’t cycled my 5 gallon tanks before I stuck anything in. I know it’s not good but I hadn’t done any research so I didn’t know better. Now I do. But my question is: I haven’t had ANY nitrites in any of my tanks. My ammonia and nitrates are there... my ammonia hasn’t gotten over 1 ppm and my nitrates haven’t gotten over around 40 ppm in ANY tank that I have. But why am I not seeing any nitrites? Is it Bc my tanks have plants in them? Thank you for reading this super long post and thanks in advance for any advice/answers you can give😊
  3. i was curious, if i were to start a tank with only those little brown guys... could i eventually get coloration from them?if so how hard is it to do? (Im sure there is a topic on this somewhere on here)
  4. I have just made an account to ask this question... I have had a 30 gallon fish tank Right now its empty and now i am interested in to keeping and breeding red cherry Shrimp. By Researching on line i got to know that first i need to setup tank with all these steps. first need Mineral, Bacterial product under substrate and add some plant then i can introduce Shrimps in the tanks. Is it true i need to do above steps!!! Also help me in this. 1,Which product shall i buy for Mineral, Bacteria. 2,Which substrate is suitable for red cherry shrimp. 3,how long to keep water without shrimp and how to know water is ready for shrimp. Also if some one can suggest water testing kit will be help full(like PH and nitrate testing)

  8. Hi everyone. In a few months I am thinking of starting my first shrimp tank. I have been keeping fish for about 3 years now and wanted to expand my hobby. I have tons of questions though. 1) For filtration, would a double sponge filter be a good choice? 2) I was thinking of starting with a 10 gallon, would that be a good choice or would a 20 gallon be better? 3) What temperature water do shrimp like? 4) I want to keep Neocaridina shrimp, can I mix the different breeds of them together? 5) If I am unable to keep the different breeds together, what breed would you recommend to start with? 6) Would purchasing 10-15 shrimp and allowing them to breed be a good idea to populate the rest of the tank? 7) Live plants vs. No plants (I've read many forums debating on whether or not you need them) 8) I know many fish will eat shrimp but I have read that you can keep Otocinclus Catfish with them, is this true? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to start of the correct way instead of having many shrimp deaths. Thank you all in advance!
