  1. I am in the market for a rack. I am not experienced in the slightest at making things. I have decided probably to go with one of those metal "garage" type storage racks. I was wondering who out there uses these and if there is a preferred brand that preforms best. I have heard that putting plywood down on the shelf really ensures the tanks are level, so I am considering that. I want to see what you guys think and have experienced. For the record I am looking for something 42-48 inches long, 4 shelves high, and deep enough to hold ten gallon tanks sideways.
  2. Hi to all, here to ask to you all guys. I gonna use a Stc-1000 temperature controller on my new shrimp rack but my question is: Where to place the temperature probe? All the time was thinking to put it on the sump next to the water outlet. Will be here the best placement? What you think? Here a little sketch of the rack. See ya!

    Shrimp Rack

Almost finished, is already cycling to soon add gambitas and Cambarellus. There is still a lack of side insulators, more biological filtering (although I can add a little as the population increases), finish installing co2 and temperature control. At the moment the only population are some planorbis and physas. I only plant Sagitaria Subulata and a couple of Java Windelov ferns in Cholla Wood. The "last floor" was left unused while waiting for occupants. Greetings! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYKlN5zhPi0
  4. Hey Shrimpspot members! So I was thinking of setting up a three or four 10 gallon tanks in a rack so I could separate my PRLs and blue bolts based on their pattern/coloration to breed them more specifically. Is there a recommendation for a shrimp rack you guys have been using? Also I was thinking of updating my filters. As of now I've been using Fluval C3 filters w/ sponge filter at the end, but I was hoping to update to canisters. A lot of people have been recommending eheim, but I was wondering what other options I have. Same story with lighting, although this is less of a problem. Lastly, I've been hearing about increase in use of sump set ups, and most people who have been using it seems to recommend it. I had mixed feelings about this because of the possibility of infection in all the tanks, but from what I've been reading most people never had problem with this. What are your guys' thoughts on this? If I have a sump set up, would I be able to use a single powerful filter/heater for all 3-4 tanks? Also was there a post on how I could set this up? Thank you so much in advance!
  5. Hey SS. Decided to move my shrimp journal here. The other website isn't really a community anymore (not since you guys all moved here) so I decided to make things easier and just post here. With TapaTalk, I find myself always posting on here anyways. This journal is to share my experience with photography, shrimp keeping, and general knowledge. I keep a lot of shrimps, so I didn't want to make too many post so consolidating everyone I own into a single thread is simple. This will compose pictures and setups of all my shrimp stuff. Those familiar with me on the other website should already know I keep Taiwan Bees. Specifically, I keep Pandas, Shadows, Blue Bolts, Extremes, BKK, Red Wines, Ruby Reds, Dragon Wines, etc. There's too many morphs of Taiwan Bees to know. I also keep PRL including Xin/Feather PRL, and Nishiki PRL. Future plans is to finish my semi-rack at my parents. Things are cooling down now and I'm buying a few cooling supplies to help endure the hotter summers to come. Just got some stuff so I'll try my best to update with photos of what I have. Mainly, I want to post pictures of shrimps and develop my photography skills. Any tip on taking macro photography is greatly appreciated! Anyhow, here's a photo of a Blue Bolt.
  6. So, this was something that I stumbled across the other day by just random observation. I have one of our small bedrooms in our house dedicated to my shrimp tanks - wife absolutely loves it BTW, she always comments how good of a use of space it is... Anyway, my room, my rules. We've been warming up here the last number of days as I am sure a lot of folks have, and so I have been keeping a much closer watch of my temperatures. What I noticed the other day makes a lot of sense (I think), but something I never thought of when setting up my tanks on the racks. The tanks on the bottom rack - much closer to the floor - are staying at 72-73 degrees with no trouble. The tanks up on the upper shelves are warmer - like in the 75 degree range. Granted, this is just a few degrees, but I think it makes sense that this is due to the warmer air rising up and the cooler air staying lower to the floor. We do have AC, so none of my tanks are in real danger, but it just got me to thinking that if you're setting up racks, maybe put your warmer temperature shrimp on the upper racks, and the crystal, TBs, and cooler shrimps on the bottom rack. It might help with the temps just a bit. Now, I'm no thermal engineer, so maybe someone can chime in discuss if my theory here is right, but on general observation, my lower tanks are all cooler, and in some cases, their heaters need to come on to keep the temp up for the neos. My plan is to now - as time and maintenance allows - to move all my cool temp tanks to the bottom racks, and put the neo tanks up on the top. Anyway, throwing that out there for thought and comments.
