  1. Hey Shrimpers! Two months ago I bought a group of PRL Crystal Reds from a seller and I was really happy to notice that a few of them had red eyes! So I did some research online and to see if it’s common? Do any of you guys also have any CRS with red eyes? I’m aware that some people might say that they have been mixed with golden bees, but I doubt it since I trust the seller! Heres a picture of one of the bigger ones Should I try and cull the red ones to see if this trait can be bred?

  3. Hi all, I currently have a 10G tank set up with red cherries/painted fires that are doing very well but I am concerned about inbreeding in the future and would like to add some fresh stock. Looking to buy red cherries to add in. Not super concerned about color; more interested in well-bred, hardy lines. Let me know if you have any available and what your prices are. Looking for around 10-15 at this time. Would be shipping to Southern California. (or if you are local!) Thank you! AF
  4. I currently have 3 Red Cherry Shrimp, sadly just lost one whom I suspect might have been the only male, and though we've had them for many months they have never bred. After losing the 4th RCS we went to pick up some new ones to expand the colony however we couldn't find any at two local stores so settled, for now and to kind of get the hang of breeding on slightly cheaper Shrimp, 4 ghost shrimp instead. It turned out that not only was one of the Shrimp very pregnant, the eggs were already on her tail, but a little small fry was also swimming around in the bag. We kept them separate from the main tank until we could get a floating breeding/isolation tank, but sadly the momma died from the stress and we didn't have any knowledge of how or even if the eggs could have been saved, however the fry is alive and doing good as far as we can tell growing in the breeding tank till she/he is big enough to not be dinner for other shrimp or fish in the tank. I took some pictures of my RCS and of the ghost when we first got them and am hoping people here can tell me what gender they might be so I can get a male or females if I don't have enough or any of one or the other. One of the RCS did not want it's photo taken so it's as good as I can get. He's the one hiding behind a bright green leaves on, of course, the bright red lite up volcano. He (or she) seems on the smaller side and the legs can look more speckled than solid red sometimes and it has a stripe along its back that looks like it's constantly about to molt off or something, very whitish dry looking. Hopefully that might help with identifying what it is... Thanks
  5. Cannot seem to find these guys anywhere and I am not to concerned on grade. Maybe some of you great hobbyists with a tank going would be able to spare 10-15 of these lil guys? Thanks friends
  6. Hey! I'm new to the hobby. I have a tank that's been live cycling with a couple white cloud mountain minnows for a while. I'm still having a struggle with chloramines, but once that's dealt with and the minnows go back to my lfs (Forest Lake Pets) I am gonna move on to setting up my tank. Here's the skinny of it: 26gal bowfront, Aqueon Quietflow 30 (I think), got some tasty gunk building up on the glass and driftwood, pretty solid flow and aeration, temp unregulated right now for the minnows' sake. My vision is to turn this into a pretty low-tech planted aquarium. Seachem Flourite Black substrate, hair grass carpet, moss on the driftwood centerpiece, and taller background plants (yet to be determined), and some sweet little stones (or marimo moss balls if the light is good enough). Black background on it too. I want to have this lush green/black palette with some fantastic red shrimps living in it. I just want to have a colony of red shrimps that breed true for the most part. I don't feel excited about aggressively culling them all. They don't have to be extremely hardy-- I am still probably gonna wait about a month to plant it and make sure I've figured out how to do my water changes. That's about it. Red shrimps. Low cull rate. Preferably something that won't keel over dead at the drop of 0.1 pH-- I'm definitely a beginner. Stripes/patterns are cool as long as the red shows up strong in the adult offspring. Any species that fit this ok? (Price isn't too important, I'm buying all this spread out enough that my savings will survive the colony starters. Unless I kill them. In that case I'm probably gonna give up and grab some tetras and perhaps a different invert.)

  12. First of all, I wanto to introduce myself, Im Camaron, Im new on this forum and I'd like to learn to pet (and maybe breed) some shrimps! I've tried once to breed 5 RCS but I failed, since I wasnt well informated and I didnt ask someone more expirienced, this time I dont want to fail again so I looked for a shrimp forum and make some questions to poeple who know about this topic. I want to start again, I just cleaned my tank (a 30 per side cube) [26liters - 6.5 gal] with just water and cleaned the sand (black inert silica sand), let the sand dry with the sun and packed it on a bottle. I have two filters, one is a cascade canister filter (185l/h) and a submersible filter (200l/h). Also I have a LED ligth lamp (http://www.amazon.com/Lemonbest-Bright-Aquarium-Lighting-Fixture/dp/B01533LOY4) I'd like to start a "planted" RCS tank, but I think I need to change my substrate in order to grow some plants, I want to grow low requirements plants and some moss, or should I go just for moss? I wanted to ask you guys which substrate should I pick and where can I buy it (hopefully not super expensive). Also my LED light will it work? or it sucks? Which plants/moss do you guys recomend me to start with. Thank you for your time guys and hope we can get along.
  13. Hey everyone. I am looking to purchase some CRS and was just wondering if there is anyone who breeds them here in Colorado. Thanks Matt
  14. Hey guys, I will try to cut a long story short here, but basically I have a problem with one of my red cherry shrimp. I have 4 red cherry shrimp in a 60 L tank. All water parameters are in check; no ammonia, low nitrates, PH is at 7.. the shrimp are roving around grazing and apparently doing very well.. except for one shrimp. I have a male who has some green abnormality growing from his swimmerets. During all my learning about shrimp care I came across this briefly and I spotted it early on my shrimp and knew this is not good news. Apparently this is a fungal infection of one form or another but I have not been able to identify it by name or really find too much information about it (causes / treatment etc..) I have taken one or two pictures which show the issue on my shrimp but for an initial picture I will simply link this picture I found online which shows a more advanced and obvious case of the same infection. There is nothing conclusive online (that I have found) to advise me going forward.. I have isolated the only shrimp showing signs of this infection in a breeding box. I have medicated his isolation tank with a dose of JBL Fungol and also Pimafix in hopes of curing him. He has been in this tank for 48 hours now. So far he still has these green abnormalities on him and I don't really see much sign of improvement yet. Has anyone had this issue before? If anyone can shed any light on how, what, where and why I would appreciate it.
  15. I'm trying to learn about Cherry shrimp. I sold some of my more red colored to them a while ago, and they want more. They keep asking and praising their color etc. I thought I would invest in some high grade and breed for them. But I have a couple questions. 1) Are all going to breed and fade and get that faded stripe on their backs eventually? I read somewhere that there are actually two types of cherries and depending on which you had they would show the faded stripe after a generation or two. 2) Actually that's my only ? Except for asking for recommendations on where to purchase the best breeding stock. But I figure maybe others would have more ?'s I haven't thought of yet.
  16. I have a single red cherry shrimp moving around a lot in the tank.. I never saw any of them swim around as much as this and she has been doing it obsessively for the last 6 hours+.. She is like going around the perimeter of the tank just constantly swimming. There are only 3 shrimp in this tank. I woke up to 3 molts this morning in the tank. Out of the 3 shrimp in here, This female is the only shrimp swimming around like crazy - the other two seem fine. Edit; nevermind. I thought only the males zoom around like this after molting..
  17. Hi guys, Here are some super red tigers which have been bred to increase their red coverage. We can get our hands on them if anyone is interested!! https://www.facebook.com/C.SKY.tw/photos/a.300472406665664.70885.264050220307883/720893317956902/?type=1&theater Thanks, Blue crown

  20. Hello, I am relatively new to fish, invert.'s and tank animals of the such.. I have done quite extensive and in-depth research on many things to help me with the fish (not implying I know everything because I don't, but I'm also not dumb). Me and my father have recently got into trying to implement shrimp into 2 of our tanks. One (mine) has just recently been started, about a week ago, and has been tested with the Tetra brand Test strips(haven't gotten around to purchasing better/higher quality water testing kits), and the results were: Nitrate ppm (mg/l) - Freshwater: 20 (Marked as "safe") Nitrite ppm (mg/l) - Freshwater: 0 (Marked as "safe") Total Hardness (GH) ppm - Freshwater: around 50 (Marked in between "soft" and "Very soft") Total Chlorine ppm - (mg/l) - Freshwater: 0 (Marked as "safe") Total Alkalinity (KH) ppm - Freshwater: 200 (Marked in between "Ideal" and "High") pH - Freshwater: In between 7.8-8.4 (Marked as "alkaline") Also my water temp is about 78-79°F, and I drip acclimated the most recent Glass Shrimp at a rate of 1-2 Drops/Sec. for approximately 3.5 hours, before that I tried taking what was originally in bag, and adding 10% of that from my aquarium to their water every 15 or so minutes, until it was just over 50/50 water ratio. In my research I have read that shrimp (Glass, Red Cherry, Red Crystal Shrimp in my cases) prefer ideals of "60-80° F, KH 3-10, pH 6.0-7.6" (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=1075+1898&pcatid=1898). Is that correct parameters for the shrimp? If so, how should I go about lowering my pH and thus my KH to meet what they need? Any "quick fixes"? I do have some of Tetra's easy balance pH, but I have heard of that harming fish and shrimp. Which I have fish, and would like to be able to have shrimp in the tank as well. PS. If you need any more info, just reply with any question, and I will get the information you need A.S.A.P.!
