Ren's CBS cube

So after I lost my betta Artie I decided to take a break from the aquarium scene for a bit. Aka school and life was tugging at me. After a while of not have something on my desk to look at I dusted off Artie's tank and decided to go the shrimp tank route.c6e34e1e8411dc568a2ceac4527f6c00.jpg

Tank Setup

Tank: Aquatop 4.12 Cube

Light: Fluval 13w PC light

Filtration: RUGF via Tom's mini canister Tom's internal filter

Soil: Fluval shrimp stratum

Low light plants and mosses

I started with 4 CBS that ranged from S-SS grade. My first batch of babies seem to be doing fine picking at the sides of the tank and the substrate. I'm due for another round of babies in the next week or two so wish me luck. Tank parameters seem stable as it has been running for about a year already.

Sounds cool, i wonder if you put some red crystal in if they would make a purple crystal?

Haha I wish shrimp genetics would be as simple as mixing paint when we were kids in art class. It's a lot more complicated than you think.

silver powder maybe?

I think it was called "sliver line" something silver. The names are a joke it would be better to find a scientific name for all of them. Which is almost impossible. Either way the poor guy had BBA on it so I had to trim it down a bit so now it looks sad.

Update:

Not so much of an update but I picked up cholla and some moss ledges from Han and added moss from Countryboy. Thanks guys! I'm still waiting on my next batch of babies to be born. They should be popping any day now. I want more CBS roaming around in this tank. I was looking at all this japanese bees and they out my shrimp to shame in due time when I get good at bee shrimp. As for the tank it's starting to get crowded I need to start moving some plants around.

This tank has so much money thrown into it that I shake my head thinking about it. The stardusts and the marble Anubias are finally showing growth. The moss are chugging along. Except the nano moss the growth is all over the place. I should probably trim and retie this week

I have an oto in here that guy puts in overtime to clean my walls. Believe it or not my walls were never this clean until I brought him home.

Question how far below the tank can an Eheim 2211 operate without it popping out on itself? I bought one before in the summer time and the canister cracked so I'm waiting for that to come in. Jeez eheim replacement parts are EXPENSIVE!

Eheim replacement parts ARE very expensive. Sometimes it's cheaper to just buy a new eheim than buy it's replacement parts. Quick disconnects are like 20ish for 1.

Yeah I know tell me about it. Unfortunately the filter I have is discontinued and it's harder to get replacement parts. Luckily I have family in Europe to send me Eheim parts. I have the replacement filter housing now I'm waiting on the O-ring...

Update 2/15

It's been a while since I did an update for this tank. The first batch of babies are growing and approaching breeding age. I can't wait for the barry white session to happen. Whoever the father was he must of had a good pattern. The majority from what the old C,B,A,S,SS chart show are high SS. Unfortunately the white on these guys aren't that great. But hey this is my first time playing with CBS so yayy for me. I had a second batch of babies but the majority didn't make it. From what I see I only have 2 out of that batch.

I started getting BBA from the light being so intense. So I rigged a piece of plexiglass so that the PC light is about 3 1/2 to 4 in. higher from the water line and reduced the photoperiod to 7 1/2 hrs.

The moss took off since I received some in December.what a month that was in terms of hobby fund. On a good note the nano moss is sending up small shoots. I can't wait for that to fill in when I trim and retie.

Equipment wise I want to get rid of most of the tubing behind the tank. So basically I'm placing the filters below the tank under my desk. I was surprised my toms mini filters were holding up this long maybe I'm lucky. ( knock on wood) I'm waiting on the damn o-ring for my eheim overseas but I did get the replacement canister and the clips. Luckily I have family in the EU that have access to it.

Oh man is been ages since I've seen this tank like this. I let this one go pretty bad. Maybe a revival should be in order but with  some new old shrimp stock.
