Red steel project

Recommended Posts

So I'm on a quest to make some red steels. Ive read around and asked about how blue steels were made and it seems like they're a cross between TT and BB. From there, back crossing to BB again over generations to get BS. So my guess in making Red Steels is using a RB instead of BB. Lucky for me I have RB and TT that I crossed recently and the berried female released the shrimplets a few days ago. These F1 tibees/tangtais I plan on crossing back to the RB. Hopefully, my theory is correct on using RB instead BB to get RS. Wish me luck :D

Oh...heres a few pics of the shrimplets.

Good looking offspring, you are on the right track. I definitely would like to see some Red Steels with intense red coloration.

Thanks. Hopefully this project turns out nicely. I've only seen very few US breed Steel Blues on FB but never seen anyone come up with Reds yet. Closes I've probably seen is maybe Mayphlys red taitibees?? We all know his awesome pics :)

They're definitely harder to come by than blue steel. For me working out the full white body coverage is the biggest challenge. Good luck with your project! Hope to see some soon!

Heres an update. Seems like the shrimps lost the reddish color and look like any other F1 tangtais. Like any young shrimplet you can never predict how they will look once they get older lol. Cant wait to cross back to RB for F2 batch.

A couple days ago. The F1 female tangtai finally dropped her eggs and to my surprise. All the shrimplets are either ghost looking with white stripes or blue with white stripes. No single red in any shrimplets since I used RB cross TT. Funny how shrimp genes work. Lol

Awesome blues.

I did the same 2 years ago. TT with RB coming from WR. No any luck even in F3 .I crossed F1  tangtais female with male RB the same with F2  tangtais.

End of last year i did some changes. i crossed F2 and F3 female  tangtais with  RB  BUT coming from German red pintos instead of WR.  Got F4  2 months ago. Color variation of the of springs is enormous . Red fancy, black fancy all kind of ghosts, blue bolts with very nice smooth deep color, red and black like a zebra pinto but only 2-3 very tiny  white stripes next to the tail. Shrimplets are around 1/4" . Will try to take some pictures this weekend. Hopefully will find time to do it.

Your F4's sound just about right with what I'm getting currently. Everything you got except I'm getting jelly colored zebra pintos. May possibly turn black later since we all know they don't stay that color long.

a while back I mixed some red pintos with my most red taitibee and I got a lot of different patterns including some f1 red steel. The first pic is f1 red steel. The second pic is the best looking one I have at the moment. I recently got some babies that look like they have potential. The last 2 pics shows what all came from the crossing

I was thinking about using one of the red bolt taitibee that i breed from your red pintos to cross back to see what can come out of the mix. I'm assuming the out come will be similar. BTW nice shrimps :)

I agree with Plamski, Introducing advanced lines may revert back or even throw a full arrange of different types of TIbees, IF you stick to your Originals breeders they will eventually start throwing Red bolts that's assuming you know exactly where the red Bolts and tangtais come from and what genes are involved.

In my mix tank I'm Getting Fancy Tigers and some all red that I assume could be Red auratai , Extreme red and Black TBs, Pintos, TBs and some other odds, This tank has only had Auratai X TBs  and 1 Mischling female.
