Hi there , 1 week before , i loose 500-600 crs shrimp from two tanks.

The only i done was replace the water at night.

I have two dogs and the mornig i put them spot on for the flea and ticks.

Maybe some chemical went to my hand , and when i add the water , the shrimps death .

A video when i add my hand inside the aquarium .

When i understand what hapen i add easy life easy filter and i save  ~100crs.

Now i am keeping in one tank , and in the other i change the substrate for sure.

So every one who have dogs be carefull... .

Sometimes a single death will start a chain reaction that will cause others to die and eventually the entire tank.

Usually, if you have a huge population, this problem is compounded more.

ShrimpFan...I don't understand what you mean.  It sounds like you are saying one can die and the others die "sympathetically"???  I know I am prob misunderstanding but since this hobby can be illogical at times, I thought I would double check.

you dont have to wait 3 days to touch the dog :)  it should all be absorbed within 24 hours.  Just dont touch the spot with the medicine while  it is wet.   Once it is dry it is completely safe.     Of course you should always wash your hands well before putting them in the tank anyway.

So sorry that happened to you.   It must have been AWFUL  :(

Hahah. No. No deaths caused by sympathy. That would be funny.

No, a death in a over population tank can cause a chain reaction as the original decay/rot and pollute the surrounding area. This may cause another to die, creating two decay bodies, which in turn can spiral and cause more and more.

I wash my hands 4-5 times before i add in the tanks..

Maybe hands absorbed the chemical.

I tested in a bottle  , i put one red cherry and then add my had inside, then after one -two hours the srhimp was dead.

That hapens for 4 days...

Now its ok .

I can put my hands inside the tanks.

+1  Littlebirdie, that happened to me before.  Once it starts, it is very hard to stop for some reason.

  • 2 weeks later...

Now the tanks stabilized.

in the first week , every day , i found 3-5 dead shrimps.

Now after 2 week , srhimps are fine, i remove substrate and plants from one tanks , and i begin again with new akadama.

In the other tank now have ~100 crs.
