  1. I am waiting on a local breeder to have sulawesi that are big enough to move or sell. So the rabbit snails and neos are keeping the tank till then. I'll feed a sulawesi food I found and try out the ones I have to see what they will eat. I'm doing bacter ae currently but not sure if I will continue. The sulawesi tank is not on my rack as i wanted 20gal minimum for them. I'm letting it run to get a nice algae coating too. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  2. Neos and tigers do just fine on low ph bee setups. Maybe not as prolific of breeders but they still breed faster than tigers or caridina. I also have better luck with all shrimp in gh only setups. Home bred neos are very hardy. I can take mine from 68* tds 150 0kh ph 6.4ish and toss them into a sulawesi tank that's 82.5* 250tds with most of the kh from sulawesi 8.5 ph sitting at 8. No acclimating and didnt lose one out of 20. Not recommended but they are harder to kill that people think. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  3. I got some reasonably priced fancy red tigers and they have been fun to split and breed for different traits or say pink vs red. Someone else's cull may be your goal. I have a mixed neo tank I've got lots of neat things coming out of. I have some blue tinged and blue pattern wild neos I'm trying to get more stable. Then there are your tibees are a good source for cheapish shrimp to start projects with. And a frtxoerbt that's pink with white edges blue stripes that I've had 4 pop up. Also got some nanacy that I have a nice line of.bluebolts from. Go to the local shows and ask or search facebook for a local breeder. Grant (tgoe) has amazing shrimp and shipping is cheap considering you don't get the losses from imported shrimp at the LFS. Wyzass also sold me some oerbt that I was able to seperate into blonds, regular oebt, and then i.moved n killed them but there were different shades or sheen on some that could have been separated. If your not going for the latest fad then pick something you see and make it more defined. Who says a deep red cherry is better than an even bright pink. My GF wanted pink shrimp so to her those are more valuable than boas and to me to have her intrested in my hobby. Blue bolts used to be bred for a crisp cut off between white and blue. I just saw some with a black front half and extreem bluebolt rear. Search grant eder's posts on fb he has been sharing some of his projects. My next is looking for fishbone patterns to cross with ykk to see if I can work on my own yellow fishbones. See what non shrimp people think look pretty that's a good way to do so.thing cheaper vs paying for latest and greatest. Oh and I'd suggest using caridina parameters for everything it let's me swap between tanks easily and I can keep.my tiger projects with my neos so doubles the tanks kinda. Neos do.just fine.for me on sl aqua soil with a tds of 150. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  4. Got ahold of Po Nguyen a few weeks ago asking about sulawesi food. Nice guy that a lot of people have good things to say about shrimp/products of his. Thanks for the recommendation on the powdered food. Hopefully it will be here soon. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  5. Is po's food a very fine.powder like.yours or more like magic powder? I keep.hearing about pure nordic have you used their nutridust or any others? I found when using a.complete powdered food I had explosions of.seed shrimp and worms. Feeding same amounts of it as magic powder or baby bio Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  6. With bacteria type foods I've always heard and tried to follow the rule of picking one and sticking with it. They dont tell you exactly what strains are in there and mixing can cause issues. That said I can't prove and issues caused by it. I'm having my best baby survival so far using magic powder. Hopefully it's still available. I used a powder food from wyazzaz too but ended up adding agar agar and making it into a frozen food they like. The magic powder is more of a food with some bacteria than say bacter AE that's more of a bacteria only product. That said the reason so.many of us use sponge filters and HMF is they provide great grazing as well as filtering. When I feed powdered foods the shrimp first pick it off the ground then an hour later most are on the sponge cleaning that. Bacter ae is the only food I'm aware of.that causes the low O2 problem so easily. Look for foods people are using that are having success and you see pop up. When I went to a local breeders house I saw a stack of 15+ magic powder bottles and shrimp.mineral uptake, and the shrimp nature line. I alternate between the mineral uptake and magic powder now. Works great that said other things could have worked too. Any powdered food will help build biofilm. It's just bacteria and microorganisms when they get food they grow. 7. It also helps to ask the person your getting your shrimp from bloody Mary's in your case, what the parameters are they keep them.and breed in. Start off with your tank at that and slowly move to what wyazzaz suggested. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  8. What parameter do you have them in? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  9. Not sure what tss is. It's a 2 part system. Bacteria and an ammonia stop chemical. Works amazing I'd suggest every shrimper keep a dozen of each on hand for those unexpected shrimp.buying opportunities or just wanting to set up a tank. U can still let ot grow.bio film by ur taking away any cycling questions is golden. Buypetshrimp.com sells them Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  10. Any place around you sell prodibio start up kits. Your tank.could be ready in a couple hours with that. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  11. Ok so I saw this stuff months ago on buypetshrimp.com and theshrimpfarm. I finally ponied up and bought it. Well once I got it and read the directions carefully it says that's it's designed to help with shrimp survival and building biofilm. Also that it's designed for 10%to 20% weekly water changes. I have been doing about 20% every 2 to 3 weeks. Will it cause premature molts to do 10% once a week? Also it says not to use to start up tanks. To use the salty bee basic at an 8:2 ratio basic:premium. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff. It was kinda spendy at 50 bucks for 550grams and I still have some shrimp king gh+ minerals i can use for staring.up tanks if I need to. Any advise on this stuff would be appreciated Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  12. So I just picked up magic.powder and used about 1/4 of a scoop in a 5.5 gallon tank and 5 minutes later had a almost full.grown.shrimp fall over and die. I had been using bacter ae about 4 months ago then switched to shrimp nature baby bio. Then .magic powder. Is there any recommended way to switch? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  13. I have a 24/7 se on a low tech 55 planted tank and when I run it in the 24/7 mode I get a lot of algae growth. This may be why your seeing more shrimp on the matten filter as it's starting to grow algae. I think the low intensity light for so.many hours dosent really cause the plants to.grow but it's enough for simple algae to live off. Just my thoughts look forward to following Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  14. Ever notice pesticides I like the tannins but dont wanna nuke a tank Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks. Do you boil them first or are they clean enough to.put straight in the tank Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
