Kamiface
I'm worried this one is a girl. I have about 20 shrimp now, and I keep asking for males, but I seriously think all I have are girls, and I can't keep ordering shrimp if nobody is gonna send me boys. Very frustrating I'm halfway to giving up. They're in a planted 2.5 gallon. I have bought about 40 shrimp total (again, all girls) and I noticed they were slowly disappearing, but only recently realized they were climbing up into the canister filter and getting sucked into the pump. Fixed that, haven't lost one since.
JT_Redmist
Hello Kamiface, Please don't give up. By the look of the abdomen it looks like a female. May I ask where you get your shrimps from? I'd say buy them as juvies or sub-adults. If you buy your shrimps as juvies or sub-adults you can't sex them yet, so if you buy 10 or so, there's a good chance you'll get a mix of males/females. Also, this way the seller can't sell you males/females only. Are you buying adult shrimps only?
Kamiface
Yes, I've only gotten a few juveniles and only in the very beginning (it's been a few months so I believe everyone is mature now), most have been adults.I bought most of them from two local stores. I didn't know how to sex shrimps at all in the beginning, I asked them for a mix, and after I got them home realized I had all girls. Second time was similar, but another store. This time I ordered online from the Shrimp Farm. I had let them know I had no males but they sent me all females and a DOA. Still haven't heard back about the DOA. These last ones are Green Jades, but most of them are half orange. This one was the smallest and the only one that's all green. I was hoping it was a boy despite the strong coloration, but I figured it was probably female. I think one they sent me is berried, but it's really hard to tell. She's very fat and opaque, and occasionally I get a glimpse of her underside and it looks like there are eggs, but I hardly see her, she hides more than the others, and I haven't been able to observe her fanning the eggs if that's what they are. Otherwise, my water parameters are perfect according to my tests and I had both shops test too. The tank is heavily planted, they've been molting regularly, but I haven't had a single berried shrimp ever, it's been over three months now. I should probably mention, I am new to this, but my boyfriend is a longtime aquarist, he helped me cycle and test and establish my tank. It hasn't had any issues aside from them getting into the filter >.<

Kamiface, Sorry to hear about your streak of bad luck. I was gonna mention buying online, but looks like you already did. Which is really strange that you ended with all females. Do you have access to any local hobbyist selling shrimps that you want to keep? If so, I'd say buy from them. Ask for juvies as they adapt better and are more forgiving to adjust to your water parameters.
Kamiface
That has been suggested before, but I don't know of anyone who sells shrimp besides the stores I went to, and when I've been back I can't see any obvious males in their tanks, so either I have no idea how to tell a male on sight or they only sell girls. I'm in PDX, and I'd love more Jades, oranges, and yellows, but the most popular stores here don't sell them so I don't know if any local breeders have any. I have enough cherries right now. Kamiface
This is the female that looks berried to me. She came out to the front of the tank for a good while this evening and let me film her 😊 I'm pretty sure I can see her fanning the eggs in this video! ☺️ She's the only shrimp I have with little orangey egg bits stuck to her tail when I can see her underside. Her color has improved, too! I really hope she doesn't drop them... Is there anything I can do to improve the odds there? final_5dd8e6705cc046001463a1e2_387647.mp4
JT_Redmist
She looks berried. Assuming your parameters are in check and your tank has good biofilm just sit back, relax and in a few weeks you'll have babies 😁
