It slightly expensive than ControSoil from Amazon, I just ordered ControSoil as well.
DETAquarium
Its the fine particle size the same as Amazonia's normal? OR Can you tell its more equivalent to Amazonia's Powder type?
EricM
can you do a crush test with a few grains. how does it compare to AS or control soil?
h4n
There 3 sizes. There extras fine is like ADA amzonia powdered Brightwell Fine would be compared to ADA regular. Love this stuff compared to ADA since there no dusting or leeching of ammonia. Eric, the crush test is Brightwell holds up better then ADA. And I like the bags they come in, its a big ziplock bag. JamesHe
Fine is about 3mm in size, which is similar to Amazonia regular. h4n

mayphly
I have the extra fine. It sure makes planting a lot easier. The plants stay put. Great to know about the ph. Sent from Folsom Prison
christinenha
Is this what you would recommend for keeping CRS/CBS/TB?
Hiatus
I've used 3 bags of the Rio Escuro XF and really like it. No problems so far with Mischlings or TB. Plants that like to float can pop out before they're rooted. It's super clean and super light. pH is 6.0 or below. I'll probably keep using it. No real reason to change. h4n, EricM, mayphly and 1 other
EricM
Is this what you would recommend for keeping CRS/CBS/TB? so far the few people who've used it seem to be having great results. its nice to have more choices than just ADA AS
Glasshalffull
I used it in my tank went with the black one. So far my plants love it added shrimp a month ago got my first berried one yesterday. DETAquarium
Not sure if anyone has read or used this substrate long enough to answer. When does the buffering capacity start giving way? Hopefully 1 year+ mayphly
h4n
Its was out about a year ago and then out of the blue they discounted it and recently bought it back. Maybe old formula wasnt good??
EricM
i did notice on brightwells sight it says not recommended for use with UGFs. which i dont see why it cant be beyond the XF being too small
h4n
I think a lot of soils say that because it breaks it down quukcer then they make it for? EricM
EricM
I dont really subscribe to the theory that using a UGF breaks down the soil faster. if you are using RO there is no difference between using UGF and not using UGF substrate still buffers only what it can/needs to. slycat929
I just got a bag of this today. Now I need to find a reason to set up another tank!
metageologist
I just got a bag of this today. Now I need to find a reason to set up another tank!Do you realy need a legitimate reason. The fact that there is a tank out there without shrimp is reason enough. Soothing Shrimp, slycat929, Shrimpie and 1 other
