Got a Nikon D5200 on boxing day, just using the kit lens (18-55mm). I know i need a tripod and a macro lens, but the pics are decent. Also spotted a heavily preggers Blue Bolt! Also, flash makes the shrimp freak out, makes for funny pictures  :P

Hi mayphly,

Just a curious question. Are you using a flash mounted on top of you camera?

Usually I do not. I think the pics I just posted have the auto flash as well as this one. I have an external flash that I would like to mount above the tank and try with a trigger.

Most my pics have only the tank lights coming from above with no additional flash. Maybe I'll try and get some shots in today with the external flash mounted above.

Yeah, I was thinking how come you have a strong light source coming from the front. ;)

If you mount the flash at the top, your photo will be great. :D

Do you use aquarium lights along with your flash?

Even though my wife thoroughly dislikes my shrimp keeping she did however find it in her Heart to make me this Xmas ornament. I think she's coming around...

Don't laugh. She won't even look at them up close because they gross her out so I think this rendition serves from memory [emoji1]
