Shrimpscales black n blue journal

Hello all

I have decided to try and do my first tank journal.  Right now i have a 46gal mixed Taiwan bee tank that has been extremely successful. It is producing tons of beautiful Taiwan bees of all variety. So my plan is to sell off all my other shrimp and concentrate all my effort to producing higher grade Taiwan bees. This first tank will be dedicated to black and blue. Blue bolt, blue panda and blue mosura. My next tank will be for the reds.

I was going to try and replicate the conditions in my first tank as close as possible. This did not work out because the amazonia aqua soil i used turned out to be a bad batch or something. Check this out, this was after two weeks and several 100% water changes.post-471-0-95679900-1421105285_thumb.jpg

So this is actually my second try. This time i am going to try Controsoil. I know there is some debate on the benefits of aqua soil but in my experience it makes a huge difference in the survival rate of baby shrimp. Hopefully the controsoil works as well as the amazonia did. Time will tell.

Here is some of the other products i will use as well as the parameters i am shooting for.post-471-0-06046200-1421105683_thumb.jpgpost-471-0-72324700-1421105699_thumb.jpg

Tank size 30gal

ph 5.8

temp 72-74F

tds 180

I use ro water with salty shrimp mineral GH+.  One scoop to a five gallon bucket works out perfect. I also add a couple drops of prime to each bucket as well as a pinch of Ebi-ken Sosei.

Substrate will be two bags of controsoil fine black. I am also adding one pack of mosura old sea mud and some ada bacter 100 as a substrate additive.post-471-0-38268700-1421106199_thumb.jpg

Filtration on this tank will be a Fluval 50 hob,a Eheim classic canister, one turbo twist uv filter and one air driven sponge filter.post-471-0-44904500-1421106538_thumb.jpgpost-471-0-94624200-1421106610_thumb.jpgpost-471-0-72303100-1421106635_thumb.jpg

Lightning will be a Finnex planted  led.post-471-0-23356800-1421106872_thumb.jpg

I added water yesterday and the first thing i noticed is the water is crystal clear even while filling. Today it looks even better. So far so good for the controsoil.post-471-0-17432500-1421107021_thumb.jpgpost-471-0-21802100-1421107037_thumb.jpg

Now all that is left to do is wait. I do have some mosura bt-9 i will be adding to the water to try and help along the cycling.

Great idea Shrimpscales!  It would be interesting to see what happened if you had the zebra pintos in with the BBs and shadows.

So it has been a few weeks now and i have been slowly adding mischling shrimp. They are doing great so far with no deaths. My plan is to transfer all my mischlings over to this tank and when i am sure the tank is stable i will sell them all and then add Taiwan bees.post-471-0-57029700-1422569413_thumb.jpg post-471-0-23719100-1422569449_thumb.jpgpost-471-0-56317900-1422569469_thumb.jpg

I also added a java fern. I am usually one of the people who tends to over do it with the plants so the tank becomes an overgrown jungle but this time i think i will just try and stick with the one plant. Or maybe two, some moss would be nice.( haha that is how it always starts) post-471-0-36336900-1422569772_thumb.jpg
