jledermann Posted October 8, 2015 Report Posted October 8, 2015 Well since my 29 tall status is up in the air right now not sure if its doomed yet from an RB infiltration, Im firing back up the 10 gal and Im planning to stock it with 10 Wine red panda or kk and some shadow panda. Im going to get the tank cleaned up and the filter ready to go this weekend so I want to throw my ideas and questions out there and get a little feed back to properly plan. Set up will be as follows: Fluval Nano plant LED Ehiem 2211 with stainless steel mesh shrimp prefilter. Planning on using controsoil for the first time, any tips and suggestions? What types of minerals or products have you guys and gals added to the substrate, I remember some people refer to some sort of "mud"? Going to have some drift wood, havent decided to use cholla wood or not yet, plant the tank with some crypts, pogostemon helferi, dwarf baby tears and some fissidens. What types of cycling methods do you recommend or products to try to assist in cycling? Maybe if you guys are interested in a product I can explore it and log my results here. I am open to suggestions lets get the planning started! Quote
jledermann Posted October 13, 2015 Author Report Posted October 13, 2015 Decor Selected, Contro soil arrived today. Waiting on Fissidens to attach to the wood and we will get this tank rocking Quote
jem_xxiii Posted October 14, 2015 Report Posted October 14, 2015 That branch is awesome looking! Quote
jledermann Posted October 14, 2015 Author Report Posted October 14, 2015 thanks best part is the base is almost completely hollow for a nice shrimp home! Quote
jledermann Posted October 20, 2015 Author Report Posted October 20, 2015 Tank is up and running, tried to keep it real simple, not crazy about the color of the sponge filter but its crazy quite because it has an adapter that makes it output fine bubbles like a bubble stone gillznglass 1 Quote
Wygglz Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 Cool! And once it is running for a while it will darken anyway Quote
jledermann Posted October 21, 2015 Author Report Posted October 21, 2015 True. So I plan on taking a preseeded sponge I've had running in a tank for about 3 weeks now in my neo/tiger tank and just running it in this new tank for about a week. Do you think that will help establish a good bacteria colony and speed up cycling? Quote
Wygglz Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 Seems to be really common practice and a good idea if you don't have bacteria to pour in and instantly cycle. Quote
DETAquarium Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 Tank looks great, always love the simple clean look! Quote

jledermann Posted October 21, 2015 Author Report Posted October 21, 2015 makes the bubbler virtually silent besides the light fizz of small bubbles popping Quote
Soothing Shrimp Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 I never even knew those existed! Just got a package. Thanks, folks! Quote
sarah Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 That's awesome. Wish there was a way to hook those up to a double sponge filter. Quote
Soothing Shrimp Posted October 21, 2015 Report Posted October 21, 2015 Sarah, I was playing a while back with jamming an airstone in the open end of a double sponge tube. Don't remember what happened. heh You want to experiment and tell us in another thread? sarah 1 Quote
jledermann Posted October 21, 2015 Author Report Posted October 21, 2015 Yea being an Engineer and Product Designer I took these and tried to apply them to a mini sponge filter I already had and barring some major overhaul and adapters I wasn't able to apply it in my 5 minute attempt. I can take a look if you give me a sponge filter model and try and come up with some modifications since I get it in my hands sarah 1 Quote

jledermann Posted October 21, 2015 Author Report Posted October 21, 2015 Got lily pipes in today to try them for the first time, I like them even though the research I did was misleading and the diameters I chose did not fit nice so I do what I do best and I made it work. Shout out to Han Aquatics for providing some grade A fissiden variety to me, some moss balls and crypts which I got off the website. Great website and a ton of unique goodies I almost spent a ton of money and I had to pull myself away haha Quote

jledermann Posted October 31, 2015 Author Report Posted October 31, 2015 Post is in the General Topics section about this but I figured since it happened with tank I'll throw it in here. Be careful when drip acclimatiing the shrimp dont decide to find out where that new fresh tank water is coming from! Quote
jledermann Posted November 21, 2015 Author Report Posted November 21, 2015 Been slacking hard. Got a macro lens for my s4 but pictures still arent great once they're on the computer so please forgive the quality, tanks been running for a few months now. Here is some updates pictures. All plants and kola wood provided by Han Aquatics, stick on ledges provided by Elevate shrimp. Shrimp from Joe's Aqua and shrimp scales. The shrimp are doing great I've been using basically the entire line of Low Keys food and SL aqua to change it up from Han Aquatics and DIsco Bee Wygglz 1 Quote
