aquariumlover10 Posted November 8, 2015 Report Posted November 8, 2015 so I went to my lps(local pet store) to get plants which they had none if but I saw swamp darters which are hitchhikers in ghost shrimp shipments and are usually free, well they sell them for $4 a pop, which didn't completely surprise me. Well i didn't know that while u was doing all if this my parents bought a puppy *facepalm* now he's a cute puppy and all but we literally just moved 2 months ago and Xmas is coming up so they buy a $300 dog... 2 morals in this story, dont ask new employees how much something costs, and don't bring your parents inside when theres a dog breed they want in the store. he's a black cockapoo(cocker spaniel poodle), 7 weeks old, ill post pics when i can get decent ones Wygglz 1 Quote
OMG Aquatics Posted November 8, 2015 Report Posted November 8, 2015 I just got a puppy for my gf birthday last week. Female Maltese 11 weeks old Not sure about other states but in NY, they cost $1500-$3000 for one that isn't sick. I hope your parents know about the vet fees they are about to get billed up on. There's appointment fee which is exam and every time u walk in the door to your vet, you gotta pay just for walking in. Also it's illegal I think?? to sell a puppy under 8 weeks of age?? My puppy sarah, Louie and gillznglass 3 Quote
Wygglz Posted November 8, 2015 Report Posted November 8, 2015 Also it's illegal I think?? to sell a puppy under 8 weeks of age. It may be illegal in NY, but not nationally. That is a really cute puppy, OMG Aquatics 1 Quote

aquariumlover10 Posted November 8, 2015 Author Report Posted November 8, 2015 he is already on solid food so I dont know why it would be illegal. we named him cooper, and we found out he has tapeworms and kennel cough Louie 1 Quote

OMG Aquatics Posted November 8, 2015 Report Posted November 8, 2015 Great looking puppy! Sorry to hear it's sick That's the problem with store bought puppies. They are mainly from puppy mills Which state are you in? Quote
aquariumlover10 Posted November 8, 2015 Author Report Posted November 8, 2015 thanks, the rest of his litter was already sold. I'm in north Carolina. Quote
Jadenlea Posted November 8, 2015 Report Posted November 8, 2015 I dont know what the law is there about puppy age and sales but the reason to keep the pup with his mom and litter for 8 weeks is because that gives them the best chance to develop socially. The earlier you take a puppy from his pack the more issues he is likely to have. Sadly it is common from these puppy mills and the number of pups sold in pet stores with sickness is ridiculous. But he has a home now and a family to love him and heal him up. Quote

Some states have laws for minimum age for sale of puppy. https://www.animallaw.info/topic/table-state-laws-concerning-minimum-age-sale-puppies Some states also protect purchasers(pet lemon law). https://www.avma.org/Advocacy/StateAndLocal/Pages/pet-lemon-laws.aspx Sadly, it looks like NC is not protected. Read many reviews on pet stores where they bought their puppies which eventually died young 1-2 years of age and BREAK their BANK trying to heal it. It's heart breaking when reading these type of experiences. We all hope that tapeworms and kennel cough is all it gonna get as those are usually easily fixed. Quote
