Citycode01
Just found this online, looking good to me and I'm thinking to order one. Anyone here had a chance to try it? I'm thinking to place Purigen in that sections instead of media. sarah
That looks awesome! What a great idea for the purigen.
sarah
.... but wow that's expensive! Costs more than a decent HOB filter. Lyana and Citycode01

fishlover
Yea you right, it's not cheap. But looking good In my opinion, the additional filter capacity adds to a regular dual sponge filter does not justify the high price. I am sure it will be replicated by some Chinese manufacturer with 1/3 of the price
Soothing Shrimp
Could take pill bottles and add that onto a double sponge filter. heh svetilda, ANBU and Citycode01

Soothing Shrimp
Bet this would work for the 10g doubles http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Pill-Bottle-JARS-Plastic-Container-Clear-Cap-Hobby-2-oz-60ml-4314-DecoJars-/361427550995?hash=item5426c2c313:g:QF8AAOSw3xJVa6-W Citycode01
DETAquarium
I definitely like this idea! Sometimes "you get what you pay for", hopefully this is one of those times. Citycode01 and svetilda
OMG Aquatics
That price is just robbery. Considering a dual sponge filter cost around $2, there's no way adding 2 extra components will cost extra $29. They are selling it for $65 USD on eBay and $31 on their website? Citycode01
Maybe it's cost a lot because it's new and only available from one brand. I think if we wait for some time we will be able to order it much cheaper from Chinese sellers on eBay who should copy this idea quite soon. But I might give it a try and order one now. Kikojaharo
You could probably figure a way to run two of these together: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=180365098353&globalID=EBAY-US

Citycode01
Yea, first DIY setup is ready. Good job. I'm going to make one as well but with the pump :-) I think it would work just fine.
Vpier
I would rather get an HMF from Swiss Tropicals and put a bag of purigen in the back. HMF kit is about the same price and will work circles around that filter. Shrimpie

HMF kit is about the same price and will work circles around that filter. But how you put HMF into established tank? Don't you think it wouldn't be very easy, it also not always ideal due to space it takes. This sponge filter with media would be just a quick upgrade and I'm agree with you that HMF setup would work better of cause but it not always possible. If speaking this way we can always upgrade an external filter for bigger volume and place purigen in it instead making or buying this sponge with media. chibikaie
The one big drawback with HMF + bag of Purigen is that you only use a miniscule fraction of the media in the bag. Only the media on the outer surface will adsorb anything, and the rest on the inside might as well not even be in the tank. It was the same with a bag placed in a HOB. This media really seems to need a reactor to actually be useful. Perhaps you could take the bag out and give it a shake every week, but I am trying to keep my hands out of the tank from now on. OMG Aquatics
If you can find the thread about filter basket thingy, you can easily just put this filter basket above outflow of sponge filter. For Purigen, I just stuff it behind the dual sponge filter and works like a charm.

I was basing my post on new setup or re-doing the tank. Citycode01

Citycode01
Ok, meet my little creation - prototype 'Purgen bullets' upgraded version of that factory make These bullets just loaded with fresh purigen and ready to launch tomorrow. As Soothing already mentioned it is a sort of lego and easy to dismantle and should be quite easy to clean but I don't think I ever going to reuse this purigen just reload it. It took a little while for those plastic pills jars to arrived from China, I ordered two diferent sizeb but they look bigger on the pictures and only largest fit good on small standard sponge filter. From 5 jars I only made 2 successful, so for another one have to order again and wait for a week at least, but one should be enough. I cut a circle of thin lair very fine sponge it should hold purigen, I hope so :-), and shouldn't reduce the flow too much. Will share update soon svetilda, Duff0712, sarah and 3 others

Citycode01
Tested today and it works great! It's like small purigen reactors! I have also attached a small 5V pump on the filter to increase the water flow 35ppt, usgetata and cyris krow
