Noisy sponge filter

Recommended Posts

This is my first time using a sponge filter which I just put into a 5-gallon tank I'm cycling.  It's a good sized filter (though sold as a mini), and I don't mind that because I know the shrimp will love the extra area to graze on and I like good filtration - but boy, it's producing some major noisy bubbles and water action!  I just have a very small pump for it so I was pretty surprised.

The only tip I could find was adding some gravel to the outer tube, but I did that and it really didn't make much of a difference.

Maybe I need some kind of a flow adjuster for my air pump?  I've seen pumps that have them included, but this one didn't.

Any other DIY suggestions are very welcome!  Thanks much.  :)
