Shrimp Home
Hi all, Please help me identify what is this species and how can I remove them out of my tank. They are breeding a lot in my sulawesi tank. Many thank for your help.
TheGlassBox
Do you keep any nerite snails in the tank? When they lay eggs they look like that.
TheGlassBox
If they look a little fuzzy, they could be harmless colonies of polyps. Clean the glass and see if they come back. If they're polyps, and they've already seeded the water than they will eventually. They are not to be confused with hydra. Most polyps are ugly, but harmless. avonsurfernc

The situation is they breeding too much and make the tank very ugly
TheGlassBox
They're moving? Do they look like baby snails? Darn... I wish I could send you my macro lens... They look about the size of freshwater limpets. But limpets aren't usually that white... They're more translucent... But it could just be the lighting... Try and get another picture... Just get one or two in really good focus... Has anyone else seen this?
Euryth
Are those maybe ostracoda, or seed shrimp? I used to have them in one of my old RCS tanks a few years back, I didn't mind them at all but I could see how they could be distracting with so many of them. I personally love seeing copepods and such in my tanks, makes me feel like I have a pretty nice ecosystem going on lol. TheGlassBox
Yeah... That could be it! do they move quickly like a bug or slowly like a snail? Here's a great video of seed shrimp..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xEMhwvNO5s Euryth
Shrimp Home
I have used planaria trap and using shrimp food inside it, but the result is not perfect, may be I add some fish to kill it
Aennedry
Looks like limpets to me. Small, white, annoying. Related to snails. Sadly the best way to keep the population down that I have found are pygmy cories. =^._.^= Shrimp Life
TheGlassBox
Oh, man... No planaria will make your water look NASTY! But it is shrimp safe... Just don't panic! I have a ton of Panda Cories who ignore limpets. Maybe they're to big to bother with something so small. Hence, the pygmies might work. But my oto's loved them! TheGlassBox
Oh, hey Aennedry - I had a limpet problem in a tank once. They made me nuts. There were so many the tank glass looked like it had a bad case of acne. So i caught some and put them in a 'test' tank. And I nuked it... repeatedly. I bombed it with "No Planaria" for a month. They just laughed at me. So I threw in hardware ammonia for a month. They flipped me the bird. Terribly rude. Then I threw in copper for the next month. They threw a party... So i tossed in some Tetra algaecide for a bit. They threw another party, and sent me an invitation. I hates them.... So I pushed the red button and tossed in all of the above, all at once. Finally... they up and croaked. Of course, none of that would be very healthy for the rest of the critters in a tank. If an atomic bomb went off tomorrow, the only thing left standing would be cockroaches - and freshwater limpets. P.S. Some folks have had luck using assassin snails. But they have to be baby assassins, because once they get too big, they loose interest in something so small. I finally tore the tank down, disinfected everything and started over. But the Oto's did bring the population down quite a bit Shrimp Life and oem

They are terribly resistant to dying.
