booty on the dance floor
Hello, Just wondering if anyone has used tubs (indoors) for shrimp. Thinking about trying it out because the dollar per gallon is significantly cheaper than using glass aquariums. Obviously you can't see them which is half the fun and would put off a lot of people but, I'm not concered about that. Tubs are more contained and I'm wondering if the shrimp do better or worse. They'd probably do the same, is my guess anyways but, I would be very interested in any other input.
chappy6107
lots of people use rubbermaid type tubs for keeping & breeding shrimp. I dont think it is better or worse than using a glass aquarium except for the visibility from the front.
DETAquarium
Ultimately it depends on the type of substrate you prefer. If your preference is ADA Aquasoil, then you will run into problems with just swapping tubs out due to the ammonia produced. If you prefer an inert, or a buffering substrate that you are certain doesn't alter the water qualities drastically or produces ammonia, then you should be fine. EricM
I've tried this method years ago. it was terrible. when you try to remove the tubs it makes a bigger mess than its worth. in the long run when your soil is about to expire it will always be best to have another tank ready to cycle.
