Greenteam
Why mischlings?
nmac15
I originally posted a topic titled need guidance. My goal is to get a variety of tb' through breeding I know i could just buy a bunch of tb's but i think it would be fun to see all different varieties springing up here and there

Greenteam
It's true you get TB's and CRS/CBS so best of both worlds.
forumsnow
Personally I think the biggest reason for mischlings is to get females. I ordered a lot of tb all were male. Almost all were juvies from people I trust. Tb just produce a much higher percentage of males. Without the mischlings I would have exactly 0 tb babies. I think this is especially helpful for people just starting with tb and dont have the money to buy 20+ tb. Even now that I have female tb, I still keep mischlings. They are just another opportunity to get more tb. I simply feed the males to my turtle. Not that much extra work. Finally mischlings are where all the different grades of tb come from. We would not have hino, mosura etc without mischlings. I really dont understand the bad rep mischlings always get.
nmac15
Even though im new to this, it actually fascinated me how mischlings could add to a gene pool. Ive been breeding discus for a long time but no matter how i breed them my outcomes are limited. Shrimp are just another cool ornamental aquatic creature to have. As soon as my 55 is fully cycled i will start a journal.
