I am certainly not intending to! I've never had this problem before. Years ago when I kept Neo shrimp and snails the water out of the tap was perfect. So I was a bit spoiled by that. I should be getting my test kit soon. But am trying to figure how to fix this slowly to avoid shock. Whatever Gh/kh upping mixture I make should I mix it in a separate container and drip it into the tank (like reverse acclimation)?

I've added some 6 amano shrimp and the tiniest baby golden mystery snail I have ever seen. Lost 2 amanos, one molted so I decided to check things to be sure and my PH is 6!! Not good. So working on trying to get this back to normal (tap 7.2ish) also waiting on a hardness kit to see if the deal API strips were telling the truth that I'm at 0gh/0kh
  3. I'm interested in this as well. Curiosity more than anything. I have heard that some products are repackaged marine supplements. I have access to ordering most types of reef products at cost.
  4. Oh ok. Just regular old polyfil. Got it. I'm kind of nervous about opening this thing. I'm kinda derpy and I dont want flood my apt/siphon out my tank. I have to find some step by step instructions somewhere. The paper that came with it doesn't say much.

I'm having so much fun with it. Small update. Found half a shrimp in the bottom today. And haven't seen any others. I hope they are smart and just hiding. I removed the betta. He was also not happy anyway. The water flow was too strong for him at the top. Which was making him hang around too much at the bottom. This tank is now officially inverts only!!
  6. The denitrate is from Seachem! Which means I can order it from work Trying to find where I can get the polyfil stuff. I have a coarse sponge over the intake thing. I was hoping it would slow things down some. It doesn't seem like it. So I just have to be patient, I guess. Thank you so much for your advice.
  7. Is denitrate another type of bio media? Is it like siporax? I vaguely remember there being such a thing for fluidized bed filtration. But all were really big. Is the tube side you are referring to the compartment with the sponge?
  8. When you look super close his marking are kinda blue. I'm not too concerned about that though. My shrimp are plenty blue. I just want to watch him do crawfish stuff and not eat his roomates. So far so good. And I want to make sure he gets what he needs. Not so far. All the tiny crays at the store were living with shrimp. That is the only reason I bought him.
  9. Beautiful! And the details in the sculpt and painting are so well done. I like the little sandy pedestals too.
  10. I am using a canister filter for the first time and just wondering if anyone had advice on maximizing it's performance. I have the ZooMed Nano 10 filter on a 7.5g tank for a betta and inverts. I don't use carbon on my tanks so I took that out. I put in the bio rings that came with it and a small bag of bio max from another cycled tank. I have treated it with Seachem stability as well. I was thinking maybe to add a small bag of purigen since I'm not planning on having much plant life in this tank. My tap is 7.2 PH. I don't think it needs much buffering (waiting on a test kit) My substrate is CaribseaCrystal River sand. So no buffering thereThanx in advance.
  11. I got this little guy a few days ago from a LFS (Pacific Aquarium) and they were just labeled blue dwarf cray which is vague. Wondering if anyone can give me an idea of a real name? I've done some research in general but this is my first cray. He is in a 7.5g with a few shrimp and betta. There lots of places to hide and I don't see him much. Can I get more? Should I get more?

Zoomed Nano10 installed and running. All the fun fake stuff put it. And some inhabitants. Luva my gentle betta has been living in it. With a dwarf blue cray, 4 Neo shrimp and a Ramshorn snail. I have never kept inverts with fish other than an otto before, so let's see how this goes. If he can't hang then I will move him. But so far he hasn't been harassing or killing anyone. Just stealing the shrimp cuisine pellets like a piggy. Will be getting more different food soon. So hopefully this won't always be happening.
  13. I came across some ridiculous AqueonNeoGlow aquarium kits while shopping for a cube style tank. And decided to order the pink 7.5 gallon. I don't usually go for kits for the reasons we all know. But the tank itself had some things I liked. Looked like it could be easily upgraded, black back wall and I had to have that neon pink silicone!!I plan on doing the usual eventual upgrades (filter, lights, heater etc.)I also ordered a Zoomednano canister filter. I have never used one before. But since I have tried everything else, why not. Still searching for a light. The plan is for it to be a very synthetic aquascape. Maybe only moss for living plants, white Carib sea Crystal river sand and I am going to make porcelain sculptures to go inside eventually. All else will be bright and fake. Any suggestions/advice appreciated. Thanx!

    Hi from NYC

Some big life changes. But finally settled again and lucky enough to work at a pet shop (thankfully not one that sells animals). I can order whatever I need and get it at cost. Which makes things much more affordable.

    Hi from NYC

Hello! It's been a few years but I'm glad to be back in the hobby. I missed having shrimpies!! I look forward to learning from you guys again. I started small and have a few bettas. But I just got 7.5g cube that I want to keep inverts (Neos, snails, dwarf crays) in. They are truly my favorite.
