stonedaquarium
Hi Folks, what do you guys think is the ideal tank size for serious shrimp breeding? 3ft 50 gal tank? i read some where that the minimum size to house and breed 200 shrimp would be a 20 gal... any inputs? Thanks
Greenteam
You can do fine in 10g tank if you keep everything in check. Larger tanks will always provide more of a safety net because they are more forgiving but not necessary with shrimp. If you toss 10 shrimp in a 50g tank it will take a very long time to fill that sucker up. I would suggest making divided tank because once you start collecting shrimp you will quickly want more so think ahead.
stonedaquarium
I currently have about 100 plus shrimp. In my 20 gal. Was thinkin of moving them to a 50 gal with a divider to add another 70 more shrimp. Basically combining two tanks into one big tank with a divider. JamesHe
20 gallon long is the perfect size. 50 gallon is too big. stonedaquarium
DETAquarium
Depends if your going for quality or quantity. Many "Serious Breeders" use 40 Gallons Breeder and 20 Gallon Long aquariums. I use 17.1g aquariums.
Lyana
20 gallon is my favorite, long is best but 20 high can be used if you don't have as much space.
Ron
I prefer bigger tanks, 30 - 40 gallon. If you're starting with 170 shrimp, a 50 gallon would be perfect IMO. My latest is a 40 gallon and I started with 4 PRL Lyana and stonedaquarium
