Maurice
I hope somebody can help me out as this is driving me crazy I have changed from tap to remineralised RO water I use aquasoil in my tank for crs and cbs. The problem that I have is that the ph just keeps falling The RO has a TDS of 12 and PH of 6.5 to 7 I reminelarise using Jayc'c DIY method on shrimp keepers forum to a tds of 140 and GH 5.5 But the Ph keeps dropping and sits at 4.5 to 5 Can I use baking soda to increase the Ph? Before changing over to RO the water was PH 6.5 and the tank has been running for around 4 months now
JamesHe
How do you check the pH?
Maurice
Hi James Aquatics, with Nutrafin liquid
JamesHe
Hi James Aquatics, with Nutrafin liquid That may not give accurate results. If your shrimp breeding fine, then don't worry about it. I keep all my bee at 5.
Maurice
Thanks for the motivation I will take a sample into our local pet shop and get another test done, maybe mine is off yes Will crystals be ok with such a low ph? I have taken them out, housing at a friend, while i converted to remineralised ro water, so just worried about adding them back in my tank with such low ph
Maurice
Just got back home and bought a ADA Ph kit The Ph with the ADA kit is at 6.6 Also had a look at the old Nutrafin test kit, its expiry date is 31/8/2015, so might have been old
RyeGuy411
Liquid pH test kits are notoriously inaccurate. To get a reliable reading you really need quality digital pH meter. I have on tank that sits at 5.5 and the API test kit says 6.2-6.
Purplepanda
Visit your local hydroponic shop for the more accurate better quality PH pens If you do decide to add baking soda or a commercial PH adjuster, make sure to add it extremely gradually to the water. This should be done over several days to prevent a lethal PH spike.
