rodi water storage

Recommended Posts

i've started a simple shrimp rack with the intent of breeding a few different types of shrimp.  I got an RODI system, but can't get a water reservoir system I like.  I wanted a small, 5-10g, holding container for the top of my rack.  Then use gravity to feed tanks when I want to do water changes or top off.

My problem is my first float valve doesn't seem to turn off the water consistently.  3x times now, i've found water leaking down the rack.  not a huge mess yet, but i need to contain before the wife gets annoyed :)

my rodi system: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043G2D66

container: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QC31G6

float valve: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HZ6A476

i got some tubing and adatpers to connect to the valve on the jug so I can easily control water coming out.  I can fill a temp container and remineralize, or mineralize the entire jug, but plan on keeping it fill w/ just rodi water.

can anyone suggest a container and float that works for them?

Something must be wrong with the setup.  My float vavle will stop my pump running at 60psi.  I am quite positive that your system runs at a much much lower psi so I have no idea what to tell you except you need to check your float vavle.

A few pointers:

-- make sure your float valve is set up on something that will not move.  I have no idea how to help you without pictures of your setup.

-- It looks like the floater can be adjusted, make sure the nut on the floater is very tight.

I would suggest you post some pics so we can look at the setup and see where the malfunction may be.

yes, and the 4 way seems to work fine.    i want to divert the waste water outside to a rain barrel as well, but that's another project down the raid.

when i setup the jug, i would simply try to blow into the port on the outside of the float valve w/ the jug upside down, simulating it floating up, and it seemed to work.  rotate the jug right side up, i could blow through it again.

and the whole setup does work, usually.  once it got mostly full, it would shut off.    but a few times a few days later, it would overflow and water would spill out the air valve at the top, down my rack.  maybe the float valve needs to be rotated a bit.
