chad590
I have used black diamond blasting sand in my 50gal non planted tank and in my 5gal betta tank for years. Is this an acceptable substrate for shrimp keeping? Is it easy for carpeting plants to spread through? has anyone used this / have pictures with their shrimp tank? Its inert and great for neocaridina shrimps, you can use it for caridina shrimps but you will always have to deal with keeping the water soft and that can be a struggle and a lot work even for people with experience dealing with water chemistry. Its fine for low tech plants. Soothing Shrimp
adrand
I used it recently in a 33 long with 3 divided sections. 2 sections with neos and 1 with crs/cbs. The crs/cbs section i have no problem keeping the ph at 6.2 and seems to be working out fine. I dont use rooted plants though only moss, subwassertang, buce and anubias. I love the black color for contrast with the shrimp colors.
loubapache
I have the medium (20/40) in a 20 gal red cherry shrimp tank. The dwarf sag spreads nicely.
35ppt
I think I ended up with the fine sand, that's all they had at the store. I think medium is better. It took 2 years, but the pearlweed (?) I am growing has just started to lay down. Note - I just stuck cuttings in and never really trimmed it.
