Critter Doc
I would really like to set up a 20-gallon long for Sulawesi shrimp, but a recent power outage had me wondering how to maintain the temperature and filtration if it's out for more than a few hours. Is there such a thing as a battery backup for heaters and filters, and can it be set to kick in automatically when needed?
sparky4056
There are battery backups but they are expensive and only last a few hours when trying to run a heater. Heaters draw too much power. Saltwater guys have em, but just to run pumps. I keep a pen plax b11 air pump in case of an extended power outage. It's battery powered and plugs into an outlet so it only kicks on when it doesn't sense power from the outlet. The shrimp will be fine with colder water for a few days (like during shipping), but still need the gas exchange from a bubbler and a couple of batteries can run one of these for days. .
