Shortly after I saw the young running around, she died. Is it common for the female to die after mating? I just put them in my 25 because I keep micro fish that need about the same water parameters and knew they would not mess with shrimp. I had plans on putting more in, but wanted to test the waters, if you know what I mean. I put a prefilter on my HOB filter so my pearl danio fry would not get sucked in, but it was clogging, and water flow was restricted. I tested for ammonia just in case, but it was zero. RedCloudVapor Posted January 25, 2015 Author Report Share Posted January 25, 2015 I acclimate the shrimp the same way I do the fish; I add my aquarium water slowly into the bag they came in over an hour. The ph of the two waters were roughly the same. Mine at 6.5 and theirs at 6.8. She had been in the tank for about two weeks beforeshe died.. The male is still fine. My kh and gh are both the same, so it leads me to beleive that most all water hardness is from calcium carbonate. Soothing Shrimp Posted January 26, 2015 Report Share Posted January 26, 2015 I find my neos do fine in 0 kh, so IMO all that is needed is epsom salt if you want to go that route. calcium carbonate will raise your gh, but also your kh, so the preference is up to you.
