Shrimp dying and I have no idea why...

Recommended Posts

I recently bought some dream blue velvet shrimp a few weeks ago, and over the past few days I have lost three shrimp (2 on Friday, and one today).

My water parameters are the same as when I first got them a few weeks back;

PH 7.8

KH 6

GH 6

Ammonia 0

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 0

Water temp 78 deg F

Water is a mixture of tap and distilled, treated with seachem prime.

They look healthy, active, always eating and are molting but, randomly are just dying off.  Please help with any advice to what I may be doing wrong.

Thank you in advance!!!!

I have a sponge filter that was seeded and the tank was cycled for a month before adding the shrimp.

I did the drip acclimation when I first got the shrimp (2 hours).

I top off the water with distilled only (drip method).

Have done two 10% water changes with a 50/50 mix of tap and distilled water.  Last water change was on Wednesday.

Then it may be there is something in your tap that you are not able to measure.

Should I just use straight distilled water or get and RO/DI filter?

Plus what would I need to add for minerals?  I currently have half a cuttle bone in the water for calcium, IAL and cholla wood.

Thank you Soothing Shrimp and D0pey for the advice.

I will get some of the SL-Aqua red wizard and a RO/ DI system to improve water qualities.

Should I use distilled water with red wizard until I can get a RO/DI filter?
