shrimpsf
I have a chance to set up a few more tanks for my TBs. What would you do ? Use 3 2 foot tanks for selectively breeding or one 100 gallon tank for mass breeding ?
DETAquarium
I always prefer selectively breeding Caridina shrimp versus mass quantities, so I would choose (3) two foot tanks. Ultimately it depends on what your end goal is though.
EricM
Exactly what Daryl said. whats your ultimate goal. if you just want a big tank full of color mixed TB tanks are beautiful, but if you plan to cull and selectively breed then multiple tanks
shrimpsf
I think i will go with the 100 gallon tank and do some mass breeding and use the smaller tanks for selective breeding. Here is a pic of the red tank. From 30 pieces to this 6 months later. Imagine if I threw in 2 to 3 hundred pieces the results in 6 months. That's the standard breeding tank at my side. Having a large tank with big population is not a good idea. Once your male population is high, they will start killing the female during mating. shrimpsf
Unfortunately the wife won't allow any more new tanks. Got to work with what i got. LOL. Lets see what happens. I will remove the excess males of it gets out of control. I will add a few large sponge filters.
Greenteam
How much substrate would you need for such a large tank?
shrimpsf
That's about 40L of ADA soil.
Cappie49
I have a 100g tank and used 7 bags of ada. It's heavily planted with two big bits of wood and co2 injection. I've had great breeding success but selectively breeding is out the question. I use a breeding net but occasionally a male will climb over. But it's primarily a display tank in my living room and I've found the variation, as it contains TB,crystals,Tigers and cherries, works well. So I just let them get on with it and any culls from my other tanks go in as well. And occasionally I get a nice surprise popping up. The odd blue jelly or extreme King Kong, and I'm sure I spotted a tiny pinto recently
