  1. I would say it's due to the fact that you want it well calibrated at the kind of usage you've got. Instruments measurement aren't always perfectly linear. When you calibrate at 0 ppm, you are at an extreme value on the range so it might not be as precise for higher value. Envoyé de mon SGH-I337M en utilisant Tapatalk
  2. Amazon.CA doesn't have all the products available on Amazon.com. for some products, I can order in the US, but some aren't even shipped to Canada. It happens quite often for aquarium supplies. Most of my supplies comes from eBay because of that. Envoyé de mon SGH-I337M en utilisant Tapatalk
  3. Seems good. I need to check if I can get it in Canada. Last time, I paid a lot for my order of finnex products (they are not anymore distributed in Canada) For the moment, I'm thinking if I could use the wires already in place to use led. The current is already 12V in their so it could be easier.
  4. Quite simple ! How are you satisfied of the results for your plants ? What is the size of your aquarium ? I already have a 12V adapter that I could reuse for this.
  5. Hey! Another french Canadian ! Welcome
  6. Hi, I just got a fabulous fluval edge for the big price of 0$ (some ladie having no more time and getting rid of it) so I'm planning a new tank. First thing I need to fix the lighting since the stock led is almost dead because of the humidity entering it (not a big loss). So I'm actually thinking about doing my own led setup. But, I know about nothing in this and I'm getting lost in the various topics. Any advice from person doing led in the past. For the moment, I'm not really planning to put difficult plant in there. Future population might be some wine Red or another Bee shrimp. I'll put ada amazonia in there.
  7. Thank you for this post ! I'm actually looking to do some selective breeding of those I've just got from a guy in my city. They are red, but some are more pinky. Any advice?
  8. Nice shrimp ! Nice to see more Canadian here
  9. Personally, I think this is part of the answer. When I was beginning, I remember reading an article about new shrimp acclimatations. It was telling that you should avoid mixing new shrimp to your actual one because of difference in the bacteria population. If I remember right, it was advising to mix water from one tank to another one or switch some decorations between the two population. Doing so, you could bring low number of bacteria to the other population. This way, shrimps could get use to those new bacteria. Basically, it's the same principle as vaccine. It's quite painful but it may be worth it. Most of my shrimps comes from the same guy so I don't really bother with this and never tried it. An interesting option could be of cultivating good bacteria population. This way, you control what's growing in your. Those bacteria will compete with the bad one to establish and drastically reduce the number of bad bacteria. That's what the biologist that I am say. technically, a little hard to put in practice. But, there are already a good amount of bacteria products available from companies. It may be worth to give it a shot.
  10. For more information on how to treat diseases and parasites, this site is great. Hydrogen peroxide is in the solution to treat bacterial infections.
  11. I only had java fern and moss when I treated. No effect on them. For a while, I was literally pouring some on my anubia to remove alga. Pretty effective and it never showed any adverse effect. At that point, I would prefer losing a couple more sensitive plant than losing my shrimps.
  12. From what I've read, bacterial infection are most likely due to insufficient tank cleaning. Two years ago, I had an issue in the tank with my mischlings and I think it was due to the cleaning of the tank. I was doing the same thing as for my smaller tank. The way I've treated my shrimp was with hydrogen peroxide. This one sounds hardcore, but in my opinion it's not worst than most chemical products. In fact, it's the same thing that you put on your wounds to clean them. I used 3% hydrogen peroxide (the one you buy at the drugstore) and dosed 1 to 3mL par tank gallon/day. I've started with 1mL and increased to 3mL because I wanted effects. Hydrogen peroxide will break fast into water and oxygen so I don't feel it to be much dangerous. Important thing : you need to do water change every 2-3 days. In the bottle, there is a stabilizer to avoid the product to break before use. You don't want this stabilizer to accumulates in your tank. If it's the case, hydrogen peroxide won't break and may accumulate. Doing this way, I've stop the infection without anymore deaths and the shrimps showing early symptoms healed. Shrimps getting cloudy are the most severely injured. The cloudy shows muscular necrosis than may not heal.
  13. I'm busy those days, but I'll try to put some soon. I just received a big group of shadow panda from a friend in Quebec.
  14. In my case, I've got the one using the ring you "glue" on your phone. It works great for me. Now, I'm using it with my galaxy S4. Before, I had a HTC ONE S and worked great too. To use the lens, you need to put a self adhesive ring to your phone. It's really easy to remove it and won't leave any trace on the phone. Second option, some phone lens (rare) are already magnetic and don't need the ring. Took this molt with my HTC and this macro lens In fact, it's the cheapest I've found on ebay. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Wide-Angle-Macro-Lens-For-Apple-iPhone-4-4S-5G-3G-3GS-HTC-Samsung-Phone-I9300-/321101089975?var=&hash=item4ac31dccb7 It also works on my galaxy TAB S without any ring. In this case, the lens is magnetic but it barely holds the lens. I need to be careful using it this way.
