  1. I own one small marina breeder box (given to me by a friend) which I have only used to isolate my peacock gudgeons during breeding. It's a bit small for this so I was going to get a medium or large. So I was looking around Amazon, and saw they have multipacks so I figured I'd get a couple extra for my shrimp tanks. I want to get mediums (0.2g), but should I use the small one I have for the shrimp? I don't really see any disadvantage of the mediums over the small... So I was wondering who has had experience using these for drip acclimation/selective breeding, and what size is best for this?
  2. This thread is dedicated to the individuals out there that have built, planning, thinking about building a breeding rack of any shape, size and custom plumbing that you want to. I need some ideas on a few racks for my fish room. I have one in mind just looking to see what is out there and to throw around some ideas. I am thinking on doing a breeding rack of 10g tanks. I want to do 2 shelves of 10g with 5 tanks on each level. On the top level would be where I want to have my 20L tanks at. The 10s would be turned, and the 20L would be like normal. I would have mostly neos in the 10g tanks, killis and anything else. My 20L are the Taiwan bee tanks, not sure on how many I want. I have 2 running right now one for regular breeding and one for my Pinto project. I also want to make a dedicated 20L for Sulawesi Shrimps also. This should be a good thread to show off our breeding racks and to make life easier for people that are just getting into the hobby and want to know how to organize MTS lol.
  3. Hi guys, I apologize if this has already been covered elsewhere, but I'm after your advice and thoughts on creating PRL crystals from CRS from an unknown lineage. My friend keeps a colony of CRS and I am planning on investing in a handful of Golden Bees. Now I realize this will be massively time-consuming (but also tons of fun!), but if we were to isolate each of his CRS females and pair them with male Golden Bees, we could identify the females that carry 'Pure' red genes (i.e no recessive golden) correct? If all the offspring are CRS, then the female is 'pure' (at least as being free from the golden gene is concerned). We could also isolate the males and pair them with my females to ascertain the same for the CRS males? If we were to find a male and a female of his CRS which both were free of the recessive golden genes, we could pair THESE two shrimp to attain a clutch of guaranteed CRS who are all free of the golden gene. Please correct me if I'm wrong at this point. Now it gets a little cloudy for me. Assuming this is all possible, what would be the next step to strengthening the genetics of the offspring? Would I need to invest in a proven PRL shrimp from a provably different family and then breed to that individual? Also, would this be the time to start selecting for grades or should the offspring be bred out to F4/5/6 etc before selecting for colors and grades? Sorry it's a bit of a long one, hope someone has the answers I need xD Thanks, Chinza
  4. So, we had to take a break on any breeding plans to fix our setup issues. With no deaths in a week and babies all staying in their respective tanks, I'm starting to plan for some selective breeding. I have one male tiger that I really want to try to breed and am thinking of using a breeder box. So for those of you who use them, when do you put the animals in there? Do you wait for saddles on the females? How many do you put in there? Obviously I'll only put the one male, but how many females? How long do you leave them in there? Any and all advice is welcome.
