Where in New York are you located? I'm also in New York, would love to do a local pickup/purchase rather than shipping if possible.

0.5-1ppm ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates, pH 6-6.5. Not sure why my ammonia is so low but theres 0 sign of nitrites and nitrates.
-
Okay just tested my nitrates, and its 0, not sure if this is normal or not.
-
Ok so I just tested my water and my ammonia reading is at 0.5 - 1ppm, and 0ppm Nitrite on Day 30. Should I just leave it as is, or should I do a water change?
-
Not yet, I was told to wait til day 30 before testing which is tomorrow. Was just curious if I should expect the nitrate levels to be something high like 40ppm+ before the WC, but seeing how I'm only supposed to do a 50% WC and expect 0ppm afterwards, I'm guessing the nitrate levels won't be that high pre-WC.
-
Thanks Eric, any idea what range I should expect my Nitrate to be?

Okay so Day 30 will be coming up this Thursday, what should I do? My water looks very clear so I guess that's a good sign, I still see some bacteria on the substrate and I see some biofilm on the filter, glass, on my leaf litter and on the substrate. Should I test my ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels on Thursday and if everything looks good, perform a 50% water change then introduce the shrimp?

Okay, I'm on Day 11 of my cycle, I just added about 60ml of Purify as per the instruction (10ml per gallon of water). I can see that the bacteria has 'colonized' on some sections of my substrate where more powder was present but some of the other areas that didn't get as much powder from day 1 don't have that biofilm looking colonization. Should I be worried about this or leave it as is and wait until day 30? My water seems to be pretty clear already at this point, not sure if this is an issue or not. I checked my ammonia reading and it was light green. I think I didn't add enough magic powder on day 1 on top of the substrate taking a look at some of the other blogs and pictures online, hope that isn't an issue.

Alright thanks Eric, I'll start turning on my lights from now until the cycle finishes.
-
Okay thanks guys, I decided to cycle with just the substrate, I've decided to buy a small and lighter driftwood after the cycle completes and create a new driftwood/java moss decoration. I am on day 5 of my cycle and I can see the bacteria starting to grow and my water getting cloudy which is a good sign, only question I have is should I keep the tank dark or turn on my lights for 6 hours a day? Currently I've had the lights off the entire cycle with only the filter + heater running.
