Identifying Baby Shrimps!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi...

So I keep these shrimp... Crystal Red, Crystal Black, Fire Red Shrimp, Black Rose Shrimp, Fire Red Shrimp...

The CRS were the first one to carry the eggs... during that times, I was careful observe, trying to find baby shrimps but instead, I found Hydras. I searched for all available option to remove them but there were none that I could try, except one, Snail Remover which also help remove parasite and hydras.

I use it following the Guide, everything seems fine and after the treatment completed, there were still hydras but a bit less in numbers than I remember. So I perform 50% of water change. A few days later after the water change... my CRS & CBS begins to die, one by one, sometime two to three in a night... I figured that the chemical had poisoned it and slowly killing it.

Strange enough... only CRS & CBS are dying, the rest are fines. Even my assasin snails are doing fine. So I just left them dying with the thought that I'll get more shrimps once they stop dying, indeed they were...

But since they were dying, I stopped caring for the Pregnant shrimps because I thought at one point, they were gonna die. But I appear to have one CRS shrimp left, alive for about 5 days till today, and it's the biggest one and that one of the ones that carrying eggs, but she was no longer carrying eggs. So begun to introduce some more shrimp, when I was observing the new shrimps, I notice baby shrimps.

They very small, abot 1mm I would say... almost impossible to see with eyes and I had to use manifying glass to see it but my Amano Shrimps was also carrying eggs, so I am not sure if it's Amano or CRS baby, because they were the only two that carrying eggs...

And supposedly, those baby are kind of too big to be Amando babies because Amano eggs are just way too small. CRS eggs appeared to be bigger. It should CRS baby except those baby are transparent, completely, perhaps with slight black ring across their body. If I had tiger shrimp, I would say they were tiger's.

And I did googling Amando baby, the baby look like worm, long and slim, which is different than my baby shrimps because my baby have a full shrimp figured but it has no color which lead me to doubt if it's was CRS or CBS. but my black rose shrimp also became light black, also looked like Amano but you can it's black, it could be black rose baby but none of my black is carryig any eggs and I only have 2 black rose. And as for Fire Red, I've seen their baby, they were very red from the beginning.

But I need to identify it, if it's Amano, I can remove it into saltwater right away, if remove it and they turned out to be CRS, I'd be doomed.

So help me please...

Artificial selection at work. The strongest survived.

Snails are an invert. So are shrimp. Anything that will kill small snails, will usually kill shrimp as well.

Be sure to do a water change.

Stress will cause crystals to lose coloration. Genetics will too.

Amano larvae need salty water to survive, and are low order.

Black rose and fire red will interbreed causing wild streaky brown shrimp. They are both Neo davidi, just different colors.

What are the parameters of your water?

Parameters? English is not my first language, so I am not sure what included in that.

But my KH is around 5 and so is my GH. But sometime and take messure and KH is a bit higher than GH. I have no way to lowering it down. I read that 2 & 3 is the best for Shrimp tank. But my tap water is around 6.

And pH is at 6.8 and my tank is about 300L and I changed about 20L of water every day.
