EricM
fluid media meaning? When we had a sump we made it a living refugium. great way to supplement soil and moss for water quality.
seaj
If you have space, why not both? I think that every filter media has pros and cons, but I figure that offering many different environments for bacteria to grow in allows for many different types of bacteria to colonize your tank system. In your sump you can fit a HMF, some soda bottles for Kaldnes media, and section for something to help with denitrification, like Seachem Matrix. Floating plants will also help with that. plamski
The setup with less maintenance is a great option. Cons is that if the shrimps get sick you are killing every one of them in this setup. Before going large be sure that you can keep them alive and make them breed. Spending money and time is the easiest part ShrimpP
