Jadenlea
Will wood as it disintegrates into a tank cause nitrates? Ive noticed that around the moss covered drift wood in my tank is lots of (what Im guessing to be ) of disintegrating crud. I will admit its old. Ive had it for 3 years and it was in a tank set up before that. I bought the tank wood/pelia and all. If the wood is disintegrating I want to make sure Im not doing anything to add to my nitrate load.
Soothing Shrimp
I don't think your wood is disintegrating as much as debris is collecting around it. Desireenfh
Desireenfh
I constantly clean the shrimp poo that settles around my driftwood. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

OblongShrimp
yes wood would give off nitrates as it decomposes but it happens so slowly I wouldn't worry about it (likely negligible amounts). You may be getting a lot of debris around the wood because the debris from the rest of the tank is collecting there because of the water movement in your tank and the way the wood diverts it.
