linda.m.amundsen.1
I understand berried...carrying eggs around under their tail. And I know they saddle before they berry. Will I be able to see a saddle on a blue velvet and a tangerine tiger? What about the dark shrimp? Can you tell when they saddle? jumpsmasher
Chiumanfu
Yes the saddle is visible on tangerine tigers and blue velvets. You generally won't be able to see the saddle on opaque shelled shrimp, doesn't matter dark or white.
linda.m.amundsen.1
Is the 'saddle' eggs developing internally that you can see? Or is it more like, 'hey guys, I'm ready for some lovin' kinda thing?
Citycode01
The saddle means that the shrimp is ready to have sex
Chiumanfu
The saddle is the ovary filling with eggs. When a female is saddled and conditions are favorable she will allow a male to mate with her after the next molt. The eggs are passed from the saddle to the pleopods via the oviduct where they are fertilized. linda.m.amundsen.1

wot_fan
I thought you might like to see this picture of one of my orange rilis since she is both berried and saddled. The eggs hatched a few days after this picture was taken. JamesHe, Shrimple minded, linda.m.amundsen.1 and 4 others
sarah
That picture is so amazing! I've never seen a saddle where you can see the individual eggs inside.

I think it is the best shrimp picture I have taken so far . I took a lot of shots of her that day and this was one of the few where the saddle and the eggs with eyes were both in focus.
