gcorona301
Hey everyone! I just checked my nitrAtes and it's around 40ppm! And I did a water 90% water change only last week what should I do?! Should I do small water changes so I don't shock my shrimp? Or???? Help! Pokeshrimp
Get some more plants and floaters. It'll help soak up the nitrates. What shrimp are you keeping, how many, amd how big of is the tank? Maybe just do a 20% water change over the course of the week.
gcorona301
Thanks for the reply! I have a 10 gallon and around 12 cherry shrimps and one albino cory. And okay should I do a water change once a week of 20% or I do a water change every other day?
zodiac
20% every other day.
Wygglz
Good luck! I practically panicked just reading your post. I hope you get it under control and everyone is fine.
Pokeshrimp
Yea 20% every other day until the water parameters are back to normal. But i find it strange that 12 shrimp and a Cory can cause such a nitrate spike after one week. Soothing Shrimp

gcorona301
Yeah me too im wondering why its so high, I just got done with a fishless cycle like 2 weeks ago but I did 2 90% water changes and I thought that did the trick but I guess it didn't. I'm going to test my tap water right now and see if there's any nitrAtes there. I did a 30% water change and it dropped to 30ppm
gcorona301
I had some hornwoot in my tank and it had a lot of dead pieces of it break of can that be a reason why there's a lot of nitrAtes in my tank? I took it out a couple days ago and cleaned the gravel as much as I could.
Jaykidding
Yeah dead plants can cause nitrates
