Tpshrimper
I know that red cherries will display deeper red coloring on dark substrate. Is the same true for blue dreams and green jades? Or will they display deep coloring on tan substrate as well? I've heard some conflicting reports, and want to clarify before I set up new tanks. Thanks guys 🤙 Tpshrimper
edwin_the_elder
Generally all my shrimp show deeper colours on dark substrate. Probably has something to do with their natural instinct to want to blend into their surroundings to avoid predation  chappy6107 and rwong2k
Tpshrimper
Anyone else have advice on this?
TheShrimpBrothers.
It can vary, but as Edwin mentioned darker is the safer route. As an anecdote I've experienced:  Some OEBT from breeder A, coming from dark substrate. When put into a tank with light substrate lightened up considerably. Some OEBT from breeder B, coming from dark substrate. When put into a tank with light substrate they barely lightened up at all.  So it can vary. But if you have a heavily planted tank and there are lots of hiding places that are darker, that would probably help with a tan substrate.  Just my two cents! Good luck with the new shrimp tank 🙂
chappy6107
dark substrate is better for deeper colors in my experience.
ILikeAsianBooty
Shrimp also lose color depending on parameters but their infants will carry their gene so it should get better with f1 generation or onwards.
