buffer substrate in canister filter.
junglefowl replied to reefer333's topic in Substrates and Water Chemistry
Or you can use BorneoWild Humic, this will buffer the PH stable for a few more months. You can put it in a mesh bag and stuff it in the existing filter. Or even just sprinkler it on top of the substrate. No need to use another filter. -

Help identify unknown bug in tank?
junglefowl replied to bobthesushiguy's topic in Care, feeding and breeding
Looks like a limpet. Completely harmless. -

I have used Excel in my shrimps tank with no problem. Just don't overdose it. Always use less than directions. You can start with small dose first to see how the shrimps react Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Equilibrium is made for plants and Salty Shrimp is specially designed for shrimps. Both of them can raise GH/TDS but they might have different minerals in the mix. I would go with SaltyShrimp if you want to keep and breed Bee Shrimps since it's a shrimps product.
-
Not neccessary to do another water change since you just did one. It can stress the shrimps out, and they are happy breeding anyway. Check your GH/KH as mentioned if needed. I would wait for another week or 2 to do another water change.

Never used it before! BorneoWild Red Ruby's Ingredients also include Astaxanthin.

Yes, it works. Cherry shrimps can live in a wide range of PH from 6-8. They just need time to adjust to the tank condition and the important thing that matters is to keep the water parameters stable for them. I have kept cherry in PH 6.5 and 7.5. And in both conditions they live and breed normal

Red cherry is good start for beginners. And it does not require much like Crystal Shrimp. Depend on the parameter of the water you are using, many people can breed them with tap water in the US, but in some area it might have different parameter. You should check on the PH/GH/KH/TDS of the water to make sure. Mineral powder is added to achieve the right condition for the shrimps. You know more when keeping high intermediate shrimps like Crystal/Taiwan Bee. When the shrimps breed, part of these shrimps in the next generations will lose color. Then you start to cull them out and only keep the most red color ones in, that's selective breeding for strong color. There's also food that claim to improve the red color for cherry shrimp like BorneoWild Red Ruby.

I started breeding with red cherry and fire red for over 3 years with success. One of my first batch of red cherry shrimps was actually from The Shrimp Farm and I love it. Don't know how many generations they have produced until now. In the last year I began to get more different shrimps and learn about breeding, now I have Tangerine Tiger/Yellow/Mischlings (CRS/CBS/Golden Bee) Shrimps and they are doing well for me. Tank size - 10gal/20gal/30gal cubic Lighting - low light (mostly LED) Filtration - sponge filter, canister, HOB Temperature - room temp (70-76F) Water change schedule (+ how you keep babies from being syphoned out) - once every 2 week and only 10-20% (using RO for bee shrimps)
