Soothing Shrimp
I've often thought it would be fun to have a contest here on Shrimp Spot to see who could grow the largest ramshorn in a given amount of time.

ShrimpP
Oooh! A largest ramshorn contest eh? Anyone know anybody selling Marisa cornuarietis (Giant ramshorn snails)? My largest "regular" ramshorns are right around an inch long (shell).

My largest were about an inch as well. ShrimpP
josu2
Looks like a great ramshorn, a different species than the most common ones. Planorbarius corneus is the one that can get an inch "tall", P. rubrum is the smaller one that can be bred for very attractive colors. Both can come in on plants from the LFS, though, I don't want to make it sound like P. corneus is rare by any stretch. Mr. F
seaj
These guys do grow much faster when they don't have any food competition. I placed 2 in a breeder box with some mystery snail hatchlings just to make sure all the food in the box was eaten in a timely manner, and they have grown much larger than all the other ramshorns I have with my adult mystery snails. Prettier shells too. Between the two of them, they must have laid 25 clutches in the past two and a half weeks, many of which have already hatched. Those mystery snails are always bulldozing their way through the tank looking for food. It's bare, so all the clumps of moss and pieces of driftwood are in constant motion.
